Two thoughts on the issue. 1. It is NOT AU--looks more XF 40 if it could grade (which I say no). 2. It was cleaned and that is why it isn't in a slab. Shame, as it is a good date, and should have been at least in a "details" slab to authenticate it.

There is nothing I can see about this coin that suggests fake (although for full disclosure, it isn't easy to see with questionable photos on this small screen), but if anyone implying that it may be fake wishes to share their evidence, I'd like to hear it.

With that said, it is very possible that the coin was once certified and it is clear that this fellow is trolling for a sucker willing to allow him a quick profit. Even a quick scan of Heritage should indicate a similarly problemed example with like remaining details could, if one were available, be had for well under his asking price. This is really no different from the other crack-out schmoes except for the coin's value; most look for maybe a few hundred or less in a flip (our resident as an example) while this guy is going for the gold. Depending on how much he is into it, who cares if there are a few return; all it ta

Went for $3831, third time out. Seems to go down about a grand each time he sells it. Just did a little research on Heritage site - I agree in part with BooksB4Coins, but not completely. Details coins in the vf and fine range going for less than $3831 but nothing in the xf/au50 range. If it were in a xf or au details holder it would bring more money - more along the line of his first two sales. There was a hole plugged xf details that brought $3500 ish.
