I like my older gold coins

Just saying. I love my older Morgan coins, but the older gold coins are great!



I think the Saint-Gaudens are the best coins ever made.

I think there are many old European gold coins which are far superior to St. Gaudens. I actually find the St. Gaudens to be pretty boring and typically American.

 

I can always raise my standards. Which old European coins are you talking about?

 

Most of them. I never tired of sovereigns and I like the French ones. But what I was actually thinking when I typed that is that four or five different Europeans ones are far more interesting to me than one double eagle.

 

The St. Gaudens $20 is a phenomenal coin, and a coin we Americans should be proud of it’s fine design.

 

I have been looking at 8 escudos. A local dealer has a graded EF-45 Columbia 1808
for $1,550.

 

Me and you think very much alike. Mister Augustus St Gaudens produced the most spectacular gold coin ever in my humble opinion. Yes sir. 19th & 20th century US gold is where my heart lies too.

 

He also designed the 10 dollar Indian.

 

This was my first US gold coin bought back in 1964 for $50.

Looks like my collection in a way except I also have many of the smaller denominations and early commems. Plus modern commems.

 

I also like my gold Liberty coins as shown on this thread.
