Hey world coin folks. I saw this posted for sale on eBay as a 1978 Norway 50 kroner coin, weighing 26.9 gms. I know with 99.99% certainty that it is not that coin. The portrait (of what should be Olav V) has an entirely different forehead. Assuming the weight is close (but who knows with this much wear) does anyone have an idea of what this is? Portrait has some resemblance to George VI of the UK, Canada, etc. @Seattlite86 advised me to look for a snipping tool. Couldn't find one, but could be because I have a Mac laptop and it might have a different name. So I took a photo of the laptop screen with my iPhone. Steve
That looks very much like an English half crown or Australian florin to me. With the portrait outline, it's definitely George VI, but, on Canadian coins bearing his portrait, he has a slightly different forehead.
Can't help with the coin, but the tool you're looking for is called Grab, and it should be in your Applications: Utilities folder.
I didn't find GRAB but I did find Screen Shot and Image Capture. I suspect that one or the other will serve my needs. Steve
Huh. I thought Grab had been around since the beginning of OS X, but it's been a while. I hope they didn't take it away in High Sierra (I'm still on Sierra)...
Definitely, George VI, if I had to bet it is probably an Australian florin that spent its life as a pocket piece. Edit:
Here's my guess, one of these three: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces12503.html https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces13915.html https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces8473.html
Good work, @Seattlite86. I think it's one of those for sure. But I doubt we'll ever know which one for sure. Steve
Yeah, I asked the seller to cancel my bid and he did so immediately. It'll show up again on eBay or end up in his junk box if he has a brick and mortar shop. Steve
At 26.9g it is far too heavy for a Florin or Half Crown - that is Crown size. I agree with George VI but without a pic of the reverse that is far as we can get.
