Given the fact that the US Mint produced 96 milllion 2009 dimes, and assuming those figures are correct, does that mean that they will release 96 million into the system?

If they minted that many, and there is no demand for them, might they melt them back down for next year?

As far as I know, they might have just accidently released one box. Nobody can really say for sure can they? I just thought that might be something to think about.

Yes, Chuck......all but two rolls have been melted.....the only way you'll get one is to bid on mine.......that's the ticket......only 4 hours left and it is at $32.27.....a relative bargain!!!!

Ok guys I am simply speechless. I just received a phone call from my dad and he just finished picking up the bags of rolls from the banks. He was looking for the 09 dimes, nickels and 2nd series pennies.

Turns out that the $500 bag is ALL 2009 P dimes, the $200 bag of nickels is ALL 2009 P nickels and the $50 bag is ALL 2nd series pennies. Rolls will be going out tomorrow...if all goes as planned I can have a brief monopoly on nickels and plenty of fun with the dimes!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be submitting pictures on here once they arrive

Are your coins coming in bags, or will they have been rolled?

 

I really cant believe it yet. I had spoken to my dad earlier today whle he was waiting to pick them up. I really wasnt holding my breath on this one and when he called me he didnt sound to upbeat, perhaps he was in shock himself. But yeh, I told him to get those out to me as fast as possible. It sucks because I am military stationed in Germany so they have to travel across the sea and it will be about 1 week before I get them.

If 96 mill dimes are hard to get I can imagine the nickels will be near impossible right now. This is simply unreal

 

From what I understand, they will be baged. It is too bad because I think the first roll that goes on Ebay will go for over $100 easily...

 

They are bagged rolls...thats the way Banco Popular does their coins, instead of boxes like in the states

I already made my promise to send rolls your way, and Ill do that. In the mean time I am setting up an auction for tonight to end within the next 7 days enough to give it exposure and for me to take pics when they arrive. Ill be doing a nickel auction

Rodzm, your generosity has been rewarded. Guys, in case you didn't know, rodzm was able to help out some of us on the PCGS forum who were looking for Puerto Rico rolls. Since his father was able to get them easily, he sold them to us at face value, even though they are worth more than that right now. And he was also willing to help some of us out with getting 2009 nickels and dimes.

It must be divine intervention that brought the nickels and dimes to your father's bank! :smile

 

You know I guess sometimes helping out does come back to you. I am in the medical field (Army medic) and this is what I do every day, its rewarding in itself being able to help people out, its great and rewarding in itself.
I know how hard it is to look for something and not being able to find it. I know too that I will probably get bombarded with requests and Ill try to fulfill them, but the ones whom I have promised to help do come first and foremost I have to help out my dad for carrying $700 worth of nickels and dimes with a bad shoulder and 66 years of age behind him.

The auction for a 2009 P nickel has started and 10% will go towards Veterans of Foreign Wars.
