IMHO they're clearly authentic. But sometimes a slab makes people feel warm and snuggly. I'm pretty sure the slab would say F12 and VF details cleaned on the 2 coins... may get a cleaned details on the $5 took though. Not sure it would be worth the extra time and expense.
The die crack at the date is diagnostic of the McCloskey 6-E variety, not the most common for the date but not a premium, either, especially when it's available in Mint State. The crack is a pretty good indicator of authenticity, though. The 1849-O is relatively common even into Mint State, although availability drops off a cliff after MS64. If your intent is to liquidate, I think both probably ought to be in slabs if only to maximize your buyer demographic. The're relatively low-end coins for what they are, so anything which will bring in more potential buyers is desirable.
I am considering liquidating, but first have to get every thing in order and I am not sue that I would want to sell everything at one time. Haven't gotten that far yet. thanks for the options. C-B-D what do you refer to by the $5.00 took through? How did you determine that they are cleaned?
The 1849-O has unnatural surfaces in your pics, like it was cleaned. And the 1836 dollar kinda does, but Im less certain. That does hurt the value, and in my opinion nullifies the expense you'll incur certifying them.
This looks like a nice AU55. The reverse looks less attractive than the obverse. Less luster. Very nice coin though and a better S mint.
