I have a completely black 1971 penny and I can't find any info about it

    I think it is just dirty/environmental damaged after it left the minting press. It definitely was not minted like that. It is generally referred to as post mint damaged (PMD). It is an alloy made from 95% copper and 5% zinc and many things can cause a reaction to copper alloy cents to make them turn black...
