When I first looked at this thread, I went looking for where the images came from. It's habit after all the years of folks just messing with the forums. My first thought was BNB but I"m probably wrong on that. My first stop was CoinFacts, looking for the images. The Heritage auction was not shown. I'm a big fan of CoinFacts but learned a lesson here. I'll do a search on Heritage as well from here on. This one sure sucked me in as being the real deal. I guess we never stop learning.
Yup, But jcuve nailed it. Just like so many others have done in the past. That's one thing I love about this forum. There's always somebody watching, researching, inquiring, questioning........ No Bad on your part Larry. Heck, she had all of us hoodwinked.........
I finally came up with something that makes sense here!!! Earlier I had nothing, so I just said that^, but now I got it!! "Hey!! That's Mr. Zachrudeness to you" Is'nt that so much better??
This got me to thinking about making sure my pics of poor circulated coins needs to have some kind of identifier in the background, so that when I find The Holy Grail of 70S LMC this weekend you guys won't doubt that is mine (wink wink :kewl: )
Yep, we all got took. No one has to feel ashamed about it though, the good intentions were there in wanting to be helpful. Kudos to Jcuve in some good detective work. He says he can't post in this thread anymore, but here's his post from the other one. Here are the 5 different pics thus far used on the eBay for this coin, with source pics I have identified, all from previously auctioned '69-S DDOs. And someone bid $2k on the eBay auction BTW. I am not allowed in the other thread, so they'll go here... Share Share this post on Digg Del.icio.us Technorati Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t189312-2/#ixzz1UuDk8pay
BTW, that nearly full picture of the obverse is the picture you posted here http://www.cointalk.com/t52220/#post580948 And, no one seems to have noticed, but her second listing seems to have disappeared. Does anyone remember her eBay id? I would like to know if she has or will also disappear.
That's the famous Stewart Blay coin. I thought it was once a PCGS 65 but it no longer shows in the pop report.
So now she/he has gone to Canada to list it. Nothing like persistence. Oh, and I will now be watching pde0704.
Years ago the image was all over the forums. I saved the image in Nov. of 2004. The coin has a lot of history behind it but I can't remember what went on.
That was my thought, as if I remember correctly, it was another member that first posted the image of the coin not Pam ?????
she used these images in an attempt to sell thecoin in the open forum here http://www.cointalk.com/t189941/
Check with the grading company BEFORE sending it in. PCGS does not recognize all the varieties and will assign grades as a "non-variety" coin. Best use ANACS, because they are able to better serve most variety and error collectors by having a broader knowledge base. You don't want to send it in two or three times to different TPGs to get it authenticated and certified.
I must have missed this thread somehow. The first thread I saw about this coin was that open forum post... fortunately, instead of just sending this person an offer for the coin, I checked out the person's other posts and quickly found this thread. That open forum post should be removed immediately to prevent anyone from dealing with this person!!!!
