I would not have left feedback if the seller had not replied with a lousy excuse. It's not like this person sold this coin found it in a drawer and had no clue about it, they sell coins as a business. "Not too familiar with non-american coins". Yet if you look at there listings, they were able to identify a Chinese coin, and a coin from Turkey. Both have non-english script. Doesn't matter if you don't know a thing about world coins, a cleaned silver coin from GB looks the same as one from the US, cleaning is cleaning.
Fool me once, shame on you Fool me twice, shame on me How many times will you be fooled before you feel the shame, Tim?
I wonder what exciting and deficient overcleaned, overpriced and poorly mailed coins Tim will buy this week?
I did some math. Since July 25th, I bought coins from 14 sellers, only had a problem with 3, and 1 was very nice about giving me a refund.
You have had more problems since 25 July than I have in several years of using eBay. I cannot quickly remember the last time I had a problem with an eBay transaction. Raise the bar Detecto, find better sellers, be a bit more savvy about what you bid on.
Ummm, I usually hang-out in dark-side of the forum, but a few recent threads have caught my eye ... => man, I'm absolutely lovin' Tim's style!! => he has all the faith in the world, plus he never seems to shy away from stickin' his head into the ol' lion's mouth!! (the dude is an inspirational God-role-model to other e-bay buyers!!) ... there should be some sort of trophe for this kind of undying effort and trust, no?!
Tim: Sorry that you received something less than you imagined, but many of us have experienced similar experiences. It's the cost of tuition in the "school of reality" for this particular course. May I ask the amount you paid for this educational process? We are here for therapy at no cost to the Numismatically aggrieved. I trust you now are relieved. Rich
It's not XF though, it is cleaned. BV to you means book value, but this piece being cleaned is still BV - bullion value.
Perhaps the guy did as you have MANY times and asked someone else to ID for him? Then you should have known better. How can the king of excuses punish someone else for doing the very same thing he does on a daily basis? It appears you have been on a roll with the "grey donuts" (doughnuts) with three in the last week, including one that you said... Not surprising considering the very first feedback left with the account was a negative over something the seller says was not paid for. So much for the high road. Tell us, Tim... how did you pay for these items? Did PayPal get their money and lift the ban, or were the sellers nice enough to accept your money orders? Has it ever crossed your mind that ebay may be how these people support their families, and do you understand that even a neutral from some kid who finds fault in everything could cause them harm? How would you feel if someone dinged your mother's account over something stupid, and because of this she banned you from selling with it? Would you have left the same feedback if the sellers knew your mother's username? Some do not have the luxury of living at home being supported by mommy and daddy and getting to piddle away whatever money they make, so at least consider this before leaving any feedback. Unless they did something that actually harmed you, don't do something that you know can harm them.
Quite frankly I think you're being just a little bit too nosy. Does not matter how YOU justify the situation, but the point is, it is dishonest to sell a obviously harshly cleaned coin without specifying as such, especially when the seller seems to know what he is doing, and then make up an excuse for the problem. If the seller would have said "I'm sorry the coin was cleaned, I will try better next time", it would not have been an issue. Does not matter if you use eBay to "support your family", some people who commit robbery do it "to support their family". Two wrongs do not make a right.
Tim, I'm not sure what you're referring to, but the comment that you responded to was about eBay in the 90s. I know I joined eBay in '98, and it had been around a year or two by then. I'm assuming that was when Scottish was referring to. That said, you would have been... 2(?) in 1996? How do you possibly remember those days on eBay? Digital cameras have been far from "expensive" since 2002 or so. They just didn't have the greatest (2mp was a nice amateur cam) back then. Even then, you would have been 8 or 9. Anyway, I'm sorry that you bought a coin off such a horrible picture. That said, even with the original seller's photo, I would have thought the coin about VF/XF, which appears to be where the coin is. Maybe its AU details, but there were flaws evident in the original photo. If you're not planning on returning the coin, just do what most people on eBay do: Complain to the seller. Leave negative feedback.
I believe that the cliche you were looking for was "The ends don't always justify the means." After all, there weren't two wrongs being committed, unless you were counting a wrong on your end that you aren't disclosing.
If you wish to air your dirty laundry for everyone to see, don't get upset when someone looks. Keep in mind that I have been around for most of your little adventures, Tim. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. A tad hypocritical, don't ya think? The guy made up an excuse instead of admitting his wrong... sound familiar? You're absolutely right. Two wrongs do not make a right, so the next time you want to neg or neutral someone, think about this. Oh, and by the way, you didn't answer my question about leaving the same feedback if the sellers knew your mother's username. It is easy to unnecessarily slam others when they are not able to return the favor.
Tim - unfortunately everything that has been aired has come from your confessional - how else would we all know about your payPoo ban, you're using your mother's ebay account to buy and sell because of said ban, and of all your other infernal life's misgivings? If you don't want the airing, don't do the sharing...
