By looking at the entire coin you can find clues such as environmental damage, alterations done after it left the mint, circulation wear, etc. These things can explain a lot of what's going on.

Guys---i accept its not the prettiest but it is a variety-I have learned to look at a coin in a different way since becoming a member--I mean I thought I had a clad-less quarter until running into paddyman but I rather learn than fantasize--and his input is much appreciated-my thing is that once a few turn up then it's safe to say it happened at the mint
