I used FedEx but only because I had no choice. USPS was closed and I needed to send them that day for the First Strike cut off. I sent them via 2 day priority mail. As for insurance I didn’t insure mine since FedEx doesn’t insure coins anyway. They’ll take the money but if something happens they won’t reimburse the buyer. I was very hesitant to do so but I took the risk since I really had no other choice. If you’re talking about “value” for insurance I estimated each coin at about $250 just to be safe.
I finally got my grades. 18 70’s 1 68 and 13 69’s….These were submitted blind no screening. There were supposed to be 3 D mint, but instead got only 2 but instead of 3 Peace Dollars there were 4. It took so long for grading that I lost all interest.
That happened to me too. It was showing 4x S mint Morgans and 2x D mint Morgans when I sent in 3 of each. It all got resolved in the end. They sent back 3 of each.
Interesting, I’m going off my grades showing up on my GC coins for sale and Items pending list…?? If anything changes I’ll update, but as of now shows 4 Peace and only 2 D’s. I think I can pull the cert#’s to check. I’m showing 4 Peace 2 70’s 2 69’s, but I don’t know what was actually in the boxes as I just sent them in sealed.
If its in their pending list the mint almost certainly messed up your order. They would have sent the label error back to be fixed
Welp, I don’t know if that’s a bonus or not…Here’s the 4 Peace as it shows… View attachment 1425481 View attachment 1425482 View attachment 1425481 View attachment 1425482
My 15 Morgans are still in grading, but my 5 Peace are in QA so it won't be long for them. Did anyone else get the special 100th Anniv. label?
I have some Morgans and Liberties I want to do this with. I see you think it's worth it? I don't imagine mine are better than 69ers but I think any coin slabbed by either company sells for between 20-30 more these days, but I am thinking of 10 years or more because as. you know they are for my grandkids only 5 years old at the moment. Your thoughts, please
There have been many collectors that have bought 2, 3 or more Morgans and Peace coins and they sell their "extras" to pay for their collection. I don't know how many collectors do this, but their actions reduce the number of coins available to us. I was fortunate to get a D Morgan and an S Morgan. I wanted the Peace so bad that I had to pay 3 times the price Mint sold them for. I can imagine what those "special collectors" would say. They would probably tell us that we need to work harder to get our coins. Maybe they are right, but to me, it seems that collectors are taking advantage of other collectors. I will remember those that did buy "extra" Morgans and Peaces.
It's probably a push. The couple D that sold there went for about the same as the peace. Your chances of a really really bad grade like a 67 would have been higher with the D as well. Some poor guy had an NGC 67 for the D that didnt even get back to issue price
Welp, figures I suppose. Seems my consignment took way to long. I know their busy but they were received via overnight shipping on 11/4. Per the rep they were handed off for grading Express the next day 11/5. Grades just hit and 1/2 of them are now listed for like 20 days. Then there’s the 30 day settlement thing. So start to finish seems a very very long time that’s March I think.
Still waiting on my submission of Morgans (and a few ASE's) to be graded - still stuck in 'Grading' stage. But, I didn't actually get them to PCGS until Nov 18th though, so I'm not surprised at the wait. I did get a little note from them today:
If my memory serves they are always busy in January and it’s due to the bulk submissions of ASE’s and honestly Covid Concerns. My little one tested positive. Makes me feel horrible. I did everything I could to protect her and I failed. I’m now going for testing. Tip: home rapids do not work, save your $ PCR only.
A PCR test will detect the virus variant, too. Ask them. That’s what I did. If it’s Omicron, she’s got natural immunity, now, the easy way, as that doesn’t get deep down into the lungs. That’s what mine was. My doctor found it out. I’m glad I got it.
Yea I mean there's not really anything they can do about the slow grading. They usually list for 14 but theyll bump it to 20 or 30 if things are really behind. The other thing too though sometimes theyll do a little longer for something like these if they have a ton of them already scheduled to spread it out a little more instead of just flooding one auction with them. In the past it's usually been like 2-3 months for a raw one to be graded listed and sold, this is definitely a lot slower than normal
I have the coins with the changing mint marks…Now during actual sales One of my Peace dollars changed into a Morgan O. So now I show 11 Morgan O but only still 2-D.
So…My mint order was max of each: 10 CC 10 O 3 D 3 P 3 S & 3 Peace When pending to list hit it showed only 2 D’s but 4 Peace. Now during sales it has changed to 11 O’s 3 Peace and still 2 D’s. What do you think is going on? Never ran into this before..
