A customer came in last night and when he was about to pay, I heard the unmistakable sound of silver clanking together. I looked up and saw the two halves in his hand. At first, I wasn't sure if they were 40% Ikes or pre-1970 JFKs as all I could see is that they were large coins. I took them and was shocked to find a 1952-P and a 1953-D Franklin half. They didn't even make it to the register, I sat them aside and bought them as soon as he left. I don't think they were stolen because the customer is a regular and is clean cut and doesn't look like a criminal at all. Before I saw these halves, I thought the Franklin design was ugly from the pictures that I had seen, but when I held these in my hand I realized how beautiful they are. Not a bad pickup for $1. They're in good shape for 60 year old silver coins. I also pulled a 1964 silver dime out of a roll. 3 silvers in one 8 hour shift isn't bad. I was ecstatic when I realized what they were and was in a good mood for the rest of the night. Apologies for the quickie phone pictures.
