My second one! This one is a different die, and not as prominent as my first one. I have to check the markers at this site. http://www.errorvariety.com/Lathe-lines/ I guess I'm a "lathe line collector' now
interesting, yes, worth anything? hey someone will buy it, but I feel it just an example of how we make coin out of junk.
I have become interested since I found these.... LOL At least they are distinct die errors that can be categorized, die states can be compared to trace the lineage. It is way more interesting than a Wide AM, or missing letter on a proof to me. These have a direct human touch. The workers were supposed to file off the lathe lines,in 1996 at the Denver mint someone didn't do a good job. Maybe they were understaffed and the bosses were spreading people too thin. Maybe there was a culture of not caring about lathe lines that particular year, maybe there was ONE LAZY GUY! We will never know....
Anything that breathes more life into the error coin hobby is positive. Especially when I'm finding the coins... lol
