No idea. it is still a great coin, and with the low mintage and great eye appeal, I am gonna love it no matter what. Some folks are too hung up on purely statistics.

I understand but just wanted to know your reason for purchasing a slabbed PR70 bullion vs just a slab free coin at a cheaper price.

First, I like having PR 70 coins. If you go through the sets from the mint, I doubt that you'd find as many 70s as you think. Most come back as 68s, with an occasional 69. I am selective of that which I collect, and like the best grade I can afford for this collection. Second, if you look at the sales numbers, all of the low mintage PR 70s have resold at significant premiums over the years. Even the high mintage years have doubled in price recently. Slabbed coins are the way I go in terms of my overall collection, for collective and investment purposes for this batch---my 5th collection. I usually make excellent profit at reselling coins. OK? :)

Example of above logic: The Proof Eagles sell at $60 plus postage= $65. I recently preordered and got my 2012 Silver Eagle in an NGC holder as a PF 70 for $98 with free shipping. So, that cost $33 premium to have a PF 70. Worth it to me, as it is a modest investment to have a top graded coin that will look beautiful, and have great sale- ability if I choose to do so.

Plus many more were sent to NGC than PCGS, and many were never certified.

I would never try to make any kind of argument of XX pop versus total mintage. How the heck do you know how many were even sent in to BE certified?

At a minimum I would always combine NGC and PCGS pops together. Most commentators on any series always do that when discussing relative rarity. :)

I think my original thread was hijacked a wee bit...lolol. All i was saying is that I like the coin(s)--the two reverse proofs--2006P and 2011P. They are relatively rare, compared to normal mintages of proof coins nowadays, and as an experienced collector I love them. In no way am I comparing them to an 1893S Morgan, or a '56 Flying Eagle Cent. Just saying they are not that common, and the aesthetic as an experienced collector appeals to me.

Fair enough sir, if you love to coin no disagreeing with you. I just was reacting to the tendency of collectors sometimes to try to create too much of a rarity factor using Pop reports.

Happy collecting. :) Maybe my son will be an ASE collector when he gets older and sees the MS70 set of these I put away for him.

I agree! I also love the Rev Proofs but I'm not sure if half of my love is because the population is relatively small compared to other modern coins.
But that San Fran set coming up soon and I'll have to get one but do I get 5 is the question :D
