... I make sure they're amazing! I have only two Greek coins. I couldn't resist getting this one a year ago. Alexander III AV Stater 336-323BC Babylon Obv: Head of Atheba wearing Corinthian helmet right, snake on helmet Rev: Nike standing to left with wreath and stylis; MI in lower left field, monogram within wreath in lower right field. 19mm, 8.55g Price 3748. Hope you like. I don't have a wife obviously!
Sweet coin, to say the least. If I were going to own a Greek gold, that would be it. I love Babylon mint Alexander's. THere just seems to be extra excitement and mystery with his Babylon mint issues. I only have a lowly Tet from Babylon.
Yep if I started collecting Greek coins, I wouldn't stop, so I decided to settle for a couple of the best ones I could find. My other Greek coin is a Temnos mint Alexander posthumous tet on a huge flan. I would love to collect Greek tets but I can't buy everything I want sadly.
This is my other Greek coin: Alexander the Great tetradrachm Aeolis, Temnos 188-187BC Obv: head of Herakles right Rev: Zeus Aetophoros seated left, oenochoe beneath vine tendril at feet. 16.25gm; 35mm
WOW!!! Greg, Both are gorgeous !!!! If you only buy two, those would be among the top 10 on my list....of course, not counting the types AJ has. LOL Presently, I'm bidding on a 'budget' Corinthian type---the better types seem to be just up your alley. Hopefully, I'll post mine in a day or so... Congrats again Greg!!!!
Beautiful coin sir! That's got to feel great in hand. However, I would not trade it for my wife, who feels much much better in hand than any coin ever could.
Hmmmm, I guess I missed something. I should go back and read the entire thread. Novel thought: trading wives for coins. I wonder........
You have to get the Athena / Owl gold or silver coin before you leave this planet. Also, your right spending that much was a clear indicator that you were single.
But if i get an Athena owl, then i'll need to get an Aegina turtle ... then the Aspendos wrestlers... then an Ionia bee....
