I took some pictures and I couldn't even come up with a name for the folder - I just used the date. After 4 hours of comparing features/devices with those from coppercoins .com I still have not pinned down what exactly this should be called. Some people from ebay just throw theirs in the Error Section and write every buzzword possible. Since i would like to see how many of the various RPM's and DDO's as well as die chips, breaks, ect.. I've got a long road a head of me there are almost 200 varieties that I already found via coppercoins. Here are some pics in case anyone has any ideas: (BTW, my current theory involves a potential 1960D-1DO-001 and a different RPM than in this photo: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1960&die_id=1960d1do001&die_state=mds Maybe D/D West or RPM-002 http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/dietype.php?date=1960&die_mint=d&die_type=mm&page=0 My heads spinning. Here's the pics. Any help is appreciated.
agree its MD,1st clue - the date and mint mark on your coin have the same doubling, which can not happen as the mm was hand punched onto the die after it was made and therefore after any true doubling of the date would have occurred, 2nd clue - the doubling on the date and mm is flat and shelf like, which means MD.
Sorry it's not anything but MD. I hope we can save you 4 hours next time... When you find a true DDO, you will know. Here's one of mine to show you what a DDO should look like:
The 1960D DDO is a Class III doubled die which is 2 designs , the small date version used over the large date version so it isn't like the types seen most often. Here are a couple of my photos. The red line shows the edge of the small date 0, and the blue line the underlying large date 0. Also the mint mark is widely separated. This is one of my favorites I collect as they are so 'dramatic' Jim
Agreed. Thanks guys! - I hope you don't mind. I screenshot-ed those images as part of my reference files that hopefully i can share this info with others down the road.
