I didn't believe them when they said PCGS is very tight on grading right now...

I approach coins in slabs with an open mind. I like to guess the grade prior to seeing what grade a coin received. If the grade on the slab is lower than my guess, I may have found a good deal, or missed something in my analysis - in the end, I like the adage: "Buy the coin, not the slab"

Tough TPGS grades are a good sign. Maybe it’ll be a long-term practice.

Entirely coincidental: I saw an ANACS-slabbed, 1886 Morgan Ag$1 today that was graded MS63 and looked mighty good to me. Her face and fields were very clean.

Anacs is ridiculous and I am done with them....I sent in two 1938 D buffalos they came back a 65 and 67 nice grades yeah...but paid for the attribution on the slab as they were omm 's a 38 D/D and D/S .I even gave them the correct numbers...they said they were not the variety. Ha ! I could attribute a 38 D nickel in my sleep!
And then....the customer service turned me over to some jackass who said in spades you or no one else will tell us what goes on a slab.
Then got even more irate and said we are done here!
At this point I am like what the hell.... paid for a service did the work for them and now you're telling a customer that you are done...and don't want his business?
Well yeah we are done...you only get what you pay for a $7 fee to grade and slab a coin is bargain basement pricing.
And that's not a bargan when they cannot get it right.
So Anacs can go crap in their hat's and pull it over their ears.....as it will be a very cold day in hell before I ever even think about using them again!
One other note their representive at the shows is very nice, and even he said he requested having a coin mounted reverse side out and they said No! To him....

I've never submitted coins to them and your comments reinforce my decision not to ever do business with them.

The sad part is I supported them both here and else where... when everyone else said oh only NGC or PCGS.....
Plus I had coupons from another deal from six months pryor that guaranteed a faster service and turn around.
Which in fact were worthless pieces of paper as they didn't honor them!
Like what the hell again....so you sold me on a deal and I kept my word and you thumbed your nose at me?
So my real point is this.....no matter how much one spends on advertising dollar for dollar you will either get more bang from word of mouth then any money spent on advertising. And like Karma it is double edge as bad word of mouth will take you down like an express elevator ,and no money spent on advertising can reverse that.

I think it would be good for the hobby to have more competition with the TPGs. Unfortunately, facts show that you'll get more for coins in NGC and PCGS slabs; with very few exceptions. Of course, buy the coin, not the holder. I've bought ANACS slabbed coins with excellent eye appeal; auction bids were almost always significantly less than equally graded NGC and PCGS examples. As a buyer i felt like I got a bargain but realize that when I sell I won't get top dollar. Personally, I don't like ANACS holders; I like PCGS holders best.

Well no matter what no one censors me !
I've been in the business world over 50 years...... and seen quite a few companies go bottom up due to poor customer service.....I was a very young buck when a man I truly admire taught me lesson #1 "take care of your customer...and all else will fall in line"

This is especially true in this hobby. Good word of mouth means you don't have to spend a lot on advertising, keeping your costs to the customer down.

I agree with you on that one. There are some that try to spin the unfavorable social media comments in their favor when they can.

And the really good ones actually monitor what is said and try to improve their customer service for exactly the reason Paddy54 states.

And the bad ones don't seem to care or don't train their customer service reps correctly. I dont know which is worse....

I can attest to the retail food industry today, for the most part customer service does not exist.
Companies are more concerned with payroll than service.
Now here is mistake #1...as said above no one is taking care of the customer.
One would be surprised to find out whom is handeling their food! I can assure you this it isn't who you want handeling it.
You wouldn't want a doctor who has not passed his boards to be doing your surgery tomorrow morning.
So why would you want some under paid, under trained, person to handel your food?
Turn over in this industry is off the hook....like a revolving door hired this week quit or fired next.
Now without starting a panic as there are companies who do right by both their employees and customers, but one must be aware and take notice of those who do as well those who don't.
Costco has a 20 % turnover one of the lowest in the industry! Why... they take care of both employee and customer.
I attribute todays shopping trends due to a couple of factors....lazy people who are willing to pay for delivery service rather than deal with the shopping experence themselves.
And the fact is when they do choose to experence of shopping in a market poor service from untrained personel push's them back to a key board and a don't ask don't tell mentality as to who is handeling their food.
You see we became a group who rather pay a TPG to tell us what as a collector what we should already know from what our eye and knowlege of our hobby tells us.
There's nothing wrong about having a coin graded....what is wrong is the lack of interest in learning . So we allow a middle man to assure us what we should already know....be it food or coins.
Knowlege is a gift.....it is something we give ourselves.... it makes us better all the way around... I always ask myself this question.... Do I want someone picking out my fruit, my meats, and bread? No I don't
Do I want to take interest in a hobby that my level in such a hobby is filling holes in a book, and having another tell me what is genuine and what isn't?
Or do I want to use my own knowlege and judgement to feel confident in my choices in life ?

"Lazy"? How about "people who realize they've got more money than time"?

I don't use a grocery delivery service, but I'm dumb for not doing it. It costs five bucks or so to get a delivery. To go to the grocery store myself, I'll spend ten or fifteen minutes in the car (we've got really close stores), and at least 15 minutes or more grabbing my stuff and going through checkout. That's 10 bucks an hour, and that's substantially less than my hourly pay rate.

Why am I wasting my time wandering the aisles, instead of wisely buying myself more time to do more rewarding things? Because I was raised a cheapskate. At least I've cured myself of driving across town to save five cents a gallon on gas.

Not to mention the price of gas and wear and tear on the car. So many people don't actually understand the cost of what they're doing

There are exceptions to the rule of course....if your incapable of shopping yourself due to perhasp surgery, or other reasons you cannot get to a store.
However once again the people who are selecting your grocies do for a fact make less than $10 @ hour. They are trained to read your request off their cell phones or off a device the store gives them....however know Jack squat about food!
No matter how much you save,in time or money does not equal the effects of a food born illiness!
I hold a Federal food and safty liences and I can also train others to obtain such, however very few companies do any sort of training to entry level staff.
These are the people that are handling your food!
Again ask yourself.....how important is food safty in my life?
I can assure you very important....as food born illiness can kill!
They can make you wish you were dead!
But I must apologize for highjacking this thread and will stop here, lastly saying...
Make good decisions and choices where you shop, and who handles your food.
Every year food born illiness claims quite a few lives, especially children under the age of 5 and the elderly . God forbid you feed your child something that makes them sick, or kill granny by having her food delivered.
It isn't something that leads your headline news....but I will assure you this....it is a serious problem that for the most part many believe that it won't happen to me...but it can and will.

I’m in agreement with the food. I want to pick my produce and meat myself. And I check expiration dates on many things last thing I want is some kid to grab a bunch of yogurt or sour cream that’s going to expire in 2 days. Or worse yet expired a few days ago. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen expired meat dairy and other perishable stuff in stores. I even seen stuff growing mold before. So no I don’t want someone else getting my groceries
