    Yup - after reading/drooling over all of you Ancient experts' collections, I bit the bullet and purchased my 1st (nothing special, but special to me). Even my wife took a look and exclaimed "that's pretty cool!":

    Claudius II, AD 268-270
    BI Double Denarius (posthumous issue)

    That is a neat one!

    This features the Consecratio series reverse, issued after death when Claudius was deified.

    There’s another consecration with an eagle reverse as well.

    Neither are super rare, but no the most common either. Nice coin and great history!

    Welcome to our field of collecting! I hope you'll enjoy it.
    For a first purchase, it's pretty nice and consecration coinage is an interesting field, though I find it quite funny that the slab is calling the Crisis of the Third Century the "Roman Age of Chaos", that's a definition I had never heard of!

    Welcome to the Wonderful world of ancients. It truly is one of the best hobbies on planet 3. And congrats on the purchase. Here's my DIVO CLAVDIO/CONSECRATIO example.

    @AmishJedi
    I have one of each of Claudius II Gothicus "Consecratos". They are sadly in really bad shape. They came out of an uncleaned lot that I bought when I first started collecting ancients. Honestly, they'd probably be better off had they stayed uncleaned! :p

    Welcome to CT ! Nice first coin to start a collection. I'm surprised nobody told you about our initiation ritual for new members : we have to post a swimsuit picture of us. Here's mine when I joined CoinTalk 2 years ago. (Ok Ok I was a bit younger on the picture).

    Congrats on your first ancient coin! I still have mine, and hold it dearly. Here are two of my Claudius II Consecratio coins, both the Altar and Eagle types.

    Glad you stopped spending money on synthol and switched to coins and guitars, @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix

    Most of the rest of us just try to keep up with time in every way possible.
