If you look very hard, squint your eyes till they water, I think you can see Steve's signature on the reverse. I do not collect Barbs, but I would have this one in my collection.
Wow, that's a very cool barbie-rendition, JA ... I don't have a barbarous coin, "yet" ... => but I do have these two sweet fallen horseman examples!!
While it is barbarous, the bulk of the drunken look is from it being double struck with a 1/8 rotation between strikes. The lettering is bold and correctly spelled so the cutter was closer to literate than the guy who cut these two with a lot of IIII's.
Brought to you by the letter I - those are amusing "legends"! Did the engraver have a stutter? The engraver of my coin starts out legibly, then garbles things up. On the obverse I see ? CONSTAN-TI AV PF, and on the reverse FEL TEMP R-EPS????.
JA, i really like that green color, somebody was having a bad day, way better then me trying to copy one of these!
very good barb really....the bust looks like the poor fellow is bored out of his mind. i see that look on my students faces all the time. i was trying to follow the legend, he got in the ballpark i suppose. something like ... VCONSTAN-TIAVPF FALTEMPR-EP?????? nice green and sand patina as well.
This coin arrived today, and we happened to have a nice, sunny afternoon, so I took it out for a photo shoot. I don't actively pursue unofficial coins, but when one as distinctive as this comes along, I'm happy to grab it. Anyone want to guess what mint mark is being imitated? I have my ideas, but I'm curious what others think...
I don't collect Barbs either, but this is a particularly nice one that I would be glad to have. Congrats my friend.
