Those men were women and not in drag. They were dressed as Mermaids. They do it every year with huge crowds, lots of children and fireworks show. It was a crass as anything Coney Island might offer.

It was unimportant, and still is unimportant...although you really should check out photo's of the Mermaid Parade. It puts a smile on most peoples faces and it is unique.

EDITED--When a person has to turn off the "google safe search" to be able to view such pages....they are NOT welcome here on CT.
Such photos are NOT welcome here on CT. Links to such pages are not welcome.

That is ridicules. Its pictures of people dressed as mermaids. You have BANISHED the Mermaid Parade... !! God knows what you would do with the Caribbean Day Parade on Labor Day Weekend!

I am a witness to what happened. (See my "No comment" comment I posted during the melee.)

What happened was, as tenacious explained, Ruben hijacked the thread (nothing new here) by posting some horrendous photos of "mermaids" from some New York parade. In my opinion at least one of these photos was in violation of Forum Rules. (I saved that photo before Ruben deleted it a few minutes later. I can forward it to those that are interested. PM me.) The photo in question appeared to be a man in drag dressed very provocatively as a mermaid. I don't know what purpose was served by posting these photos other than to immediately draw the thread off-topic.

Let me see if I can explain the purpose since its escaping you. I have taught on the university level, so i might have a chance to succeed here.

The subject was "I caught a mermaid!" - see it still says it next to the word Thread: in the upper right hand corner. I posted pictures of the Mermaid Parade which is a PG parade with LOTS of little children in it and along the parade route. The images had far less nudity than say the coin that is posted above or the picture posted below and it is a yearly event in Brooklyn, world famous, and which brings people from around the globe to attend.

The parade has people who dress as Mermaids and they Parade down Mermaid avenue. Nobody ever gets arrested for public lewdness and fun is had by all.

There was no intention to harm anything, or anyone. Nor is it my style to run roughshod with moral proclamations like Hobo is doing here. If anyone wants to see pictures of the Mermaid Parade, the ones I happened to have posted was from a Daily News Photographer, both the papers published pics and his private blog. Your welcome to enjoy them, or stand over them in righteous indignation, or not enjoy them... I don't really care.

I'm not embarrassed by them, and frankly neither should you be, but this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of how silly it is. But just for your own knowledge Hobo, I pulled them because poster of the thread got upset, and I try to be a nice guy, so I pulled them from the thread and then posted them in the General discussion area where the moderators decided the didn't want them.

Now, I think they are wrong, but they have jurisdiction to make that decision, and outside of your sniping at me here, I just don't care enough about it even if posting deer that was shot dead is considered OK but Brooklyn Mermaids is considered vulgar. Too each their own.

The "mermaid" in one of your photos was wearing pasties. I am no prude (far from it actually) but I don't think that is appropriate on a coin message board that is frequented by kids.

And the photos had nothing to do with the topic which was a coin with a mermaid.

I had to look this up because I didn't know what "pasties" are on wikipedia.

That is true. I don't deny it. Unlike the COIN, the real people at the Mermaid parade have to abide by the law and they are forced to cover themselves up minimally unless they are nursing. I think the Gold Body Paint was cool though with the flippers.

PS - There are definite Star Trek episodes which wouldn't pass the standard here. I can think of one particulary with Roxanna Troy and Worf...and a mudd bath

    Thank you Hobo.

And I'm glad there were those of you who did enjoy the coin, (in spite of the little drama. :) ).

In my estimation the little drama was the reaction to an unusual momentary lack of the usual sound judgment on the part of one of the respondents. The offending image(s) were promptly excised.
