t-shirts.... the problem is the people selling coins at the flea markets have to acually know what a numismatist is!!
I think there are too many coins on the shirt too... lol I'd rather have a shirt that said "Numismatist Extraordinaire"
Uh, because it's the only neighborhood my wife and I can afford downtown? Why do people live in Bed-Stuy and Bushwick in Brooklyn or Roxbury and Dorchester in Boston? I'm not saying my 'hood is THAT bad (I can tell you that there's at least one other in Denver that's worse), but roses and daisies it ain't. It feels safe enough, I'm just extra-aware of my surroundings if I'm getting something from the car at say, 2 a.m.
In all seriousness wearing something like that in some areas is like saying I'll bet you can't rob me. Or hey look what I collect. In most large cities crime is fairly common. Now with the economy being what it is home invasions, car thefts, etc are growing constantly and may soon become a way of life. In this area of Chicago there are always around 600 to 700 murders a year and that is the ones reported. We run about 50,000 auto thefts per year. Other types of robberies are possibly to numerous to even mention and way to many are not even reported. Wearing anything like that shirt may appear as a good idea but it is difficult to tell if your being followed home from anywhere when there are millions of cars on the street. It truely is just better to be safe than sorry. I am aware there are places where you can go to a store and leave your house doors unlocked, open, cars with keys in them, tool sheds left open, etc. But around where I live it is not even smart to go to my garage without locking my house door.
I think what is really needed sor most of the people who posted here is to just lock yourselves in your house, keep your gun in your lap, and trust noone. Spend all your coin money on over priced ebay or coin show items.
You really weren't kidding when you said you haven't been collecting coins for a long time!!! One nice thing about this forum is you get HONEST answers. If you don't like that, move on. Sorry we all didn't offer to buy 20 each for our coin clubs!
HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR,, Over priced coins on ebay! HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR . Locked in the house with gun on my lap HAR HAR HAR.. Are you looking in on me through the window? Just kidding.
I haven't been collecting long, but my brother in law makes a liveing as a dealer and has for over 20 years. I told him about the postings here and he just smiled. He said "That's why I don't use the forums, small minded people with no real clue. Just uninfored people." Bye, I don't need this.
Well if thats not a contradiction. Theres a difference between small minded and uniformed......i guess that statement just spoke for itself.:rolling:
I have to offer up my two cents here... I live in a small town of 7,000 in Iowa... There is a huge Meth problem here and in the surrounding areas, although manufacture is falling, it is still a problem... Most of these "users" have no money and will do what ever it takes to get their next fix, and they are not "dumb" like "potheads" They will rob you or your house if they even think you have a bubble gum wrapper collection... It's a "collection" and it's gotta be worth money!!! I'm just saying "Small Town USA" is not exempt...
That's what is scary. It's EVERYWHERE. As I stated some time ago I live near an area with a very high crime rate but it's not just here. A friend of mine went to visit his son in Kentucky. Really rural. Well, Earl likes to drink and got nailed for DUI. Ended up in jail for a few months. His cell mate was in for murder. Supposedly shot his father in law while poaching. Earl said he was a nice guy actually but no way it was an accident. He also told me the majority of people incarcerated with him were in for Meth labs or poaching. I stated it before (actually referred to Iowa) criminals travel and they are everywhere.
Well I'm not closing my meth lab so you can feel safer, Thender. There are plenty of trailer parks around. Pick another and let me earn a living. All of you STOP BEING SO SCARED!! Live a little. Oh and and I like the the guy in jail was a nice guy. Except for the fact that he murdered his wife's father, I'd have a beer with him. On second thought, maybe some of you should stay indoors.
You know Craig a it's easy to type tough words. If you get a gun in your face are you going to be so tough? Thankfully, that has never happened to me but I have been threatened with same. I had people throw rocks at me when I was on a "repo" mission in the projects. Thankfully it wasn't bullets. Think these people don't travel? Yeah, live a little. I prefer to live a LOT. This is why the majority of us give the advice we do. We would like to see the OP have a long and happy life. If you want to walk around with a shirt that says "I'm carrying $10,0000 cash on me" then put the money in your pocket and do it. You could get killed for that in a "nice" neighborhood. If that doesn't work I can take you to "hoods" where it will take a lot less time. Like maybe a few minutes. You're talking a good game here dude. Can you play it?
Now I dont mean to say anything questionable here, but lets just say back in my younger years.....lol I use to have to travel in not so nice neighborhoods......for reasons im not stating, and even now for work Im pretty much on the south side of chicago, and even as far as FORD HEIGHTS. Anyone that knows Chicago or the areas around it knows about Ford Heights. Police dont even like to go in there. And I dont think it would take mins......more like secondshya: If those people saw you get change from a hundred you can consider yourself shot
Man, this thread has come a long ways. OP, I don't think anyone meant offense with what's been said, we are all just trying to help. That is a good idea, IMO, just has it's consequences. To be honest, I wouldn't wear it, just for the fact that I would worry about someone following me home, and trying to kill me and my family, to get to my coins. They'd probably all in all get maybe a few hundred, but people these days are desperate, and some will do all they can to try to get money. I do like the idea, but always try to see both sides of things, the good and the bad. I do hope you stay here, don't let a few posts have you leave. Phoenix
Now that's scary. Ford Hieights. Lowest per capita income in the nation at some point. I used to go into the projects there right off of 30. Was it Wentworth? Nice place - NOT! My stoning incident was in Altgeldt Gardens on the border of Chicago and Blue Island. Yeah, nice neighborhoods. Threats of bodily harm or shooting. Let's see? South side, West Side and, of course lovely Gary, Indiana. We gotta meet with our shirts on some time. Gotta bring a tough guy with us. Then leave him.
