I had posted a thread on here a long time ago (maybe 12 years) about my profile V-Nickel picture and what the issue is. No one could really say and since that time the post (I believe) was purged. Since then I have had 5 people tell me different things. One of them said it was acid damage, another said that they thought it was done on purpose (which to me seems like a lot of work for a coin that doesn't have much value normally) and three told me it was major lamination of the coin, including a dealer I went to a year ago. He even offered to buy it from me but I declined because if this is truly lamination then its the most I have ever seen on a coin and would rather send it in to get it slabbed. He probably wouldn't have offered me much anyways. What do you guys think this is? It looks to me like major lamination as well or possibly something being on the planchet itself when the coin was produced considering it really hasn't effected the high parts but I really don't know. I have seen other laminated coins that look like this but with much less lamination. Would I be able to maybe contact the mint and ask if they would know? I'm sure they have the most experience as to picking out the error coins considering they make them or would it be worth just sending it in to get it slabbed and see what they say? Let me know what you think. BTW sorry for the picture quality. I tried. I would have scanned it but my scanner needs repaired. Thanks.
