Sorry to hear about your troubles Spock. I never knew that Indian customs could be such a hassle. I thought those F'er guys streamlined stuff through the customs process. Nothing on the box would indicate the package was coming from the mint but, then again, the way bill would indicate coins or bullion. Really sucks buddy....
yea i may have to send the coins to one of you who will then have to call it a numismatic sample and send it to me via registered airmail. lets see how things work out
My wife is from pakistan (outside karachi) and much of her family still lives there and we send stuff to them they cannot get over there and often the packages just dont make it there. We often have to send multiple packages and hope one arrives. We have lost at least 10 packages...so at least you have some information as to where it might be as we get no info once the package enters Pakistan and sometimes they are delivered, other times not...
Not samples as some code of samples requires elaborate description or manual checking. Only people holding Restricted Goods Import License can get bullion coins inside the country without any hassles. Use Numismatic Gift as item description and ask your US friend to quote value less than $10. BTW USPS Registered Airmail charges are quite stiff
ah. well there was this one time i lost a 4 fig shipment of coin supplies after that i switched to fedex and no problems then today happened
thanks numismatic gift it is. Ill go get the license. reg airmail is quite cheap from what i hear only $15
My P& D mint sets along with some commemoratives came in a box and the shipping charge was $34. Well I wanted to sure that none of the coins get damaged in transit so there were 5-7 meters of bubble wrap inside.
He lives in India? My friend in India tells me to never mail him anything valuable because it probably won't get there.
Thats a complete untrue statement. Last year alone I traded coins and currency with collectors from 11 different countries. I also received 9 mail packages containing coins from US alone. And none of the packages sent by Registered Mail got lost, with exception to a mail from Iraq.
I meant that I don't agree with AdamL's statement that nothing valuable can be sent to India by mail and your statement that only FedEx can deliver stuff in here securely barring coins.
I have always been under the impression it is harder to get coins out of India than into India. From time to time I have collected various INS coins, mainly Kutch and Gwalior and Jodhpur, and have traded over there for them. Usually my contacts there have sent the coins out with someone travelling out of the country that then sent them via mail in their destination country. I always got the coins, even if circuitously routed. Similarly I got several sets of Indian paper money with matching serials from a collector in Delhi, he sent it in a package via Fedex to an office in San Jose, CA, and they then sent them onto me. In dealing with India, I have found where there is a will there is a way - and people there are very accomplished at finding a way to make positive things happen.
thats true have you had stuff delivered here like tvs computers etc? if you managed to get it through usps then fine my experience has always been that they get lost unless sent via fedex
yea share some of those insider tricks with me. i dont want to have a few lots from heritage in limbo that would really suck and the st gaudens will be out in 2 weeks.
