I am hooked on coin talk

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by Pocket*change*anonymous*, Aug 12, 2018 at 1:35 AM.

  1. To who ever started this website and made it free to join, thank you ! It's the equivalent of finding a golden ticket in a wonka bar (for me) I had no idea that requesting a dollar in pennies from the gas station, to look for wheats, would snowball into this! A little change can do wonders

    First post, thank you again

    Welcome to Cointalk
I know what you mean at the age of 54 I got interested in CRH I never in my dreams would have believed that I would be a collector.

I don't do much CRH other then my change but I do buy alot of coins now of course my wife likes it, cause I spend more on coins then the casinos.

Cointalk and the members here have been a blessing for me the knowledge that flows through this site is unbelievable watch, learn, and listen you will do fine.

It starts so innocuously. A wheat in your pocket change. Maybe a silver dime. Then a visit to a coin/stamp shop. Maybe a purchase on EBay. Then suddenly before you know it your living room decor centers around your coin safe and coin desk. Different powered loops on every table. Family pushing you to join numis-anon...... Welcome to CT!

Your wife likes it, because your coins have value. Whereas, what you lose at the casino is gone forever.

Your post struck a chord with me.
Coin collecting has not been my only hobby. I have been involved in many over the years. I don't drag race anymore, or motorcycling either. I cant metal detect any longer, due to health problems. (anyone want to buy my detectors?)
But, I have noticed that certain hobbyists interests often overlap. Metal detectors, coin collectors, stackers, guns and survivalists.
If you are involved in these, you will often see ads for one or more of the others in hobby magazines.
I have never considered myself a survivalist, although it seems pretty clear that we are headed for a fall, but.....
Because of my hobbies, I am better prepared than most, even some survivalists, if it all hits the fan.
As you can see, some of my hobbies I have "timed out" of because of age. Some due to health, or higher priorities. But most of them stemmed from my childhood and my first interst.
    Coin collecting.

I started back in 1968. Just out of the service. Several of my friends started playing penny anie porker. Kept mine in a pennies in a large coffee can. That progressed into a 2 1/2 gallon soda/acid fire extinguisher. Soon there were two and then three. When I got hurt and had to retire, I started going through them. 70,000 pennies later, here we are.
