I have a copy of that book from 1983 - got it from my great grandmother who collected coins a bit, hoarded silver here and there, and owned an antique shop in springfield, illinois - I was too young when she passed to know anything about her collections, wish I knew her more though. Maybe I can drudge up mine and make some scans for ya'll to look at some funny prices!! Some of the coins were considered too common or new and they wouldn't buy them, like all the Franklins and silver Kennedys. They considered them face value even in '83, wow!
1983 Stacks Coin Buying Guide Here are some selections from the 1983 version of this book. I think it's a great contrast to 1971 since gold was at approximately $350/oz according to the book at the time of printing (late '82 I think). First I'll post the introduction that explains their process, grading, etc:
Next are the cents, to give a glimpse at what copper coins were doing in the context of the silver/gold bubbles:
Now the silver dollar prices for all those that wish they could buy common date Morgan and Peace Dollars for $10:
Makes you wonder if inflation is going to make the prices we pay today look like these, 30-40 years from now?
Well I was going to guess 60 or maybe late 50's fromm the fact that they only have 2 grades & I thoght by 65 they began listing "unc". However the fact that the Cents stop at 1960 is a giveaway.
