I said my piece to the OP because I disagreed with his stance, but I don’t see how we suddenly allow one person to represent an entire generation, or that one bout of frustration somehow means someone is a bad person. This “my generation is the last good generation” is a tired trope. Have any of you ever stopped to consider who the millennials are? We are the generations that followed a long line of generations that took all the fish out of the ocean and replaced them with plastic, that put a hole in our ozone layer, that let the US be the largest polluters in the world’s history, that went from one parent being able to provide for the whole family to both having to work (changing the family dynamic), that allowed oil companies to ravage third world countries, that allowed corporations like Apple to squirrel billions of dollars outside of the US and avoid paying taxes, that implemented a failed social security policy and now wants our generation to bail them out, that supported decades of failed wars with foreign nations, that destroyed our rain forests and continue to make our lands inhospitable, that pay our teachers dirt wages and then lament at the lack of educational upbringing of those who follow, that has created a zero defect society where we are never better than our worst mistake and condemn everyone else despite their own skeletons, that didn’t grow up in an era where anyone has a video camera handy and can film your every action, that didn’t grow up in an era where nothing you do is secret, that didn’t grow up in an era where people can hide behind anonymous screen names and say anything they want without being held accountable, that openly mock our generation but then demand we “respect our elders”. I made every effort to avoid the political realm, but spoilers: mistakes were made there too. Pretending that the millennial generation is somehow the first rotten one is pure self-aggrandizement. The next time you want to go on a millennial bashing rant, don’t forget that we follow YOUR generations. We have become who we are because of what your generations were. If your generations don’t like what we’ve become, perhaps you ought to look in the mirror and ask “why don’t they want to be like us?” You ought to stop casting stones when you also live in a glass house.
