Are there any other collectors of Hungarian coins and medals out there that live in the NoVA/DC/Maryland area?

I seem to bump into other Hungarian collectors out there at shows once in a while, so I've got a little local network going. It's not as much fun to collect in a vacuum.

I live about 450 miles to the S.W. in N.E. Tenn.
I have collected Hungarian coins off and on for over
40+ years. I collect Early Dated European coins
now. Most of my Hungarian collection are common
medieval denars and post 1800 coins. I wish you luck
    in finding like minded collectors.

Thanks! Denar sets are very popular, but very tough to complete by date, and some types are quite scarce including the 1896 commemorative denars. Do you ever make it up to the Whitman Expo in Baltimore?

Hello Jaelus, Went to Whit./Balt. last year to have
Todd image some of my Early Dated pieces. If I go
this year it will be for the Fall show. I just got back
from a show in Knoxville, Tn. and had some luck with
Hungarian coins. Is there a checklist that would be
easy to use and carry to shows? I am thinking of using
Krause. I wish you luck with your collecting. Tibor

After the numismatist István Adamovszky's death, his son revised and updated his father's (1848-2010) book, and it is quite good for classic/modern Hungarian. I carry that book: Ifj. Adamovszky István: Magyar Érmekatalógus 1848-2012 with me to all shows for reference, since the period I collect is 1848-1956. His father also wrote a book on an earlier period: Magyar Érmekatalógus 997-1037 Árpád-ház.

Many Hungarian collectors are using Adamovszky's catalog system (Adamo numbering), however, the "gold standard" catalog is Huszár. Huszár Lajos' 1979 masterwork: Münzkatalog Ungarn is probably the most relevant book for what you collect. It's published in both German and Hungarian and can be found affordably in paperback (original hardcovers go for quite a bit).

I would not recommend Krause for a specialized Hungarian collector at all, since they have a lot of omissions and errors in their catalog.

I also keep my collection up on collectivecoin.com/Jaelus along with pictures and holes for missing coins for my sets. That is quite handy to use as a reference when at shows, especially if I'm considering an upgrade.

Hello Jaelus, Thank you for the advice. I have 2
of the Husza'r books. I do not read or write German.
I think I will just use the the Krause books for now.
While I do collect Magyar coins, they are a distant
second to my Early Dated collection. I hope to get
to Balt./Whit this fall. I would enjoy meeting with
you. I enjoy meeting collectors who are passionate
about the hobby and their collections.
