I have a coin with the following words on it. MAGYAR KIRALYI VALTOPENZ 1898. It has what looks somewhat like a helmet on one side and a 2 in the center on the other side. Does anyone know anything about a coin of this type?

You have a bronze Hungarian 2 Filler coin KM#458). In 1898 14+ million were minted so it's not very rare. The mintmark letters "KB" should be visible below the date indicating it was from the mint in Kremnitz.
My Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins list these grades and values:
    FINE $2.25
    VERY FINE $4.50
    EXTREMELY FINE $8.50
    UNCIRCULATED $12.50

'MAGYAR KIRALYI VALTOPENZ' is the Hungarian for 'HUNGARIAN ROYAL STATE COIN'.
