Anybody know anything about 1853 seated liberty half dollar or "old Spanish trail" half dollar "hub trials" or working dies? IMG_20150401_191817_731.jpg IMG_20150401_191743_792.jpg

Interesting. They look like wax impressions.

The texture on the designs...almost looks like fabric?

Looks like a poor photocopy glued to a board. I don't see any relief at all.

Poor picture. They are brass images in reverse nailed to blocks of wood- clearly for stamping out coins. Anybody know anything about them, their value?

I'm sure they weren't used for making coins . As only hardened steel dies could do that . Could you show a pic of the other side ?

I'm sure they are not period - two 'dies' 82 years apart would not have the same characteristics.

Looks like they're reversed photographs of coins posted on April 1. Oh, and the date was not part of the seated half hub.

If the image is flat, they look like half tone printing plates. A local dealer has boxes of them from when Western printing (the red book people) closed its Racine, Wisconsin plant. They sell for a couple bucks each.

Well, I'd never bite on those.......'specially since they look like they're surrounded with Gorilla Glue.

I have a bunch of them, mostly ancients, but a few U.S. co
mmems that were used in the Red Book. They make nice additions to coin exhibits.
