Just got an email from a bullion dealer offering 2018 ASEs at $2.17 over spot. So tell me again, why would anybody with any sense buy a slabbed one for $119.95?
In what way are they different? And don’t tell me they’re worth more, because as with many flavors of the month, values change over time. The graded populations for MS-70s is too high to hold any long term value. I would compare the MS-70 ASEs to 1950-D Jefferson Nickels. Worth way more when they were new and the hype was huge, but over time have lost most of their value making them long-term losers.
They're professionally graded. Comparing graded 70s to to raw ones is apples and oranges The market has already shown over several years that they will sell for a premium over raw ASEs every time and the 70s will sell fore more than the 69s at least for the PCGS and NGC ones, the only question is how much more.
There are hundreds of thousands of 70s graded by both PCGS and NGC. That's 100,000 by each service and that's not most of the coins, there are plenty more raw coins that would grade MS-70 if the value justified grading them, and that's for several years running, at each service. I see all kinds of sellers at outrageous prices, but I know of nobody who offers big $$$ to buy them.
I wasn’t commenting on their price, some years cost more than others there’s no doubt about that. I was commenting on the comparison between a graded 70 and a random raw ase.
