G1: average collector G2: I collect everything but ancients G3: Hobby collector.. I go in spurts will buy a bunch of coins one month and nothing for a couple of months. G4:Middle aged just turn 40 last Monday but always a student when it comes to coin collecting. G5: 11-20yrs
group I - well, I would say above average since I have been at this for a while, have made minor contributions to 3 books, and spent 6 of my younger years working at a coin shop, but I am not a professional as I do not even attempt to make money from my hobby. group II - I suppose set collector is the closest, but even small subsets are extremely difficult to assemble. That's why I'm working on hundreds of different sets, so that I can make progress somewhere, lol. group III - hobby collector group IV - middle age group V - 45 years, but many lean years saw more $$$ spent on reference material than coins.
Group1: avg collector/beginner Group2: collect everything, more of an accumulator than a buyer.. Group3: hobby collector, I dont sell anything. Since i am not a pro, i am very selective when buying, instead of buying a single expensive coin, i prefer buying a cheap lot..The idea is to see and collect as many different coins as possible Group4: agegroup of -25-35 ( hope thats not called midle age ) Group5: collecting for 16 yrs, its a been a fun journey and i continue to enjoy it..
Well, -I'm a 1 month old collector in my mid 30's, that likes long walks on the beach...(oh sorry...lol) -I am mostly a hobby collector but maybe one day it might be worth something -I am into modern US coins and plan to do all of the series in at least XF or better (I like Mercs too) -I also plan to ask many questions as I go so don't get annoyed with me too soon, I'll be around for a while... :goofer:
Wow, well lets see. I'm an above average collector, who collects any U.S. federal pieces, old, new, modern, commem, that catch my fancy. I'm mainly a hobbiest/researcher who dabbles in investments, but they are very few. I'm definately not a student, but I'm not middle aged either even though I've been collecting for about 22 years. I honestly think of myself as a numismatist through and through because of all the research I do and the vast amount of different coins I accumulate
I am an average collector of mostly type coins who considers coins a hobby. I am (gasp) middle aged and have been collecting for almost 30 years off and on.
group I: average collector group II: sets, older coins, ancient coins, proof, modern coins, commemorative, slab collector, gold collector. group III: hobby semi-investor/collector group IV: student, group V: 20+ off and on.
I. between average and professional II. anything that appeals to me, but mainly US III. hobby collector IV. retiree V. 50 plus years
Well now, let's see: Group I: Average, maybe slightly above average in modern coins. Group II: I collect most 20'th Century sets, modern proof & mint sets and singles, high-grade gold, silver and some platinum, and sometimes just various world coins with personal eye appeal. Group III: Collector first; investor second. Group IV: Retired, but still "young" though! Group V: About 20 years off and on; then the last 10 years a lot more seriously.
hope more people will introduce them self. thanks for those who did.....merry x'mas and a happy new year to all collectors as well as all investors.
I don't think any one of those fits exactly, so here goes.... Not sure how to describe my Collecters Status.. Been collecting for about 5 years.. Working on the following sets: Jefferson Nickel Proofs 1950 -Date (Highest grade I can afford, slabbed NGC) Morgans 1878 - 1921 (MS-65 or better, Slabbed NGC) Susan B. Anthony Proof Set 1979- 1999 (PF-69s, Slabbed PCGS) Sacagawea 2000 -Date (PF-69s, Slabbed PCGS) Presidential Dollars 2007 - Present (PF-69s, Slabbed NGC) SAE 1986-Date Uncirculated (MS-69 or better, Slabbed NGC) SAEs 1986-Date Proofs (PF-69 or better, Slabbed NGC) Us Type Set in a Dansco Binder (best condition I can pick each coin up in) Also, Modern Commens in Mint Boxes SAEs Mint Boxes Proof Sets - In US Mint Packages Mint Sets - In US Mint Packages American Legacy Proof Sets - In US Mint Packages Some special sets from the mint if I like'd them and could get my hands on them for a decent price... Tons of ungraded grade coins in the lil 2x2 flips I pretty much collect any US coin I can get my hands on.... I don't consider myself a begainer/hobbyiest not a professional as I don't know enough about Grading or Numismatics or spend enough money to be at that level.... Fun, is the main reason I collect... I love to complete sets and be able to look at the different years, mints, styles and surfaces of the many coins... I think they are all sort of an art.... Investment??? Not sure as I would love to think that if I ever part ways and sell off any of my treasures, I'd profit somewhat, but I do not have a toneframe in mind as to when I'd think about selling something and I'd buy a coin, just because I liked it even if the bandwagon, did not see it as a worthy investment... I also collect Bullion Bars and rounds... Atleast one of every 10oz and 1 oz Bar and Round I can get my hands on, some 1 oz rounds I have a tube/roll of... Lots of Silver Art Bars too... I think I just like Shiney things.... Mostly, I collect because I enjoy it...
group I: average collector group II: sets; older coins, some modern coins, commemoratives group III: hobby collector, semi-investor/collector group IV: older than student, not quite middle age group V: 11 - 20 years

Very interesting to read everyone's answer! So cool to see what everyone does group I: average collector. group II: I guess set in that it has to be US only. I balance coin with currency. My goal is to get a great example of each by year and by demonination. group III: semi-investor/collector. The collector in me has a higher priority. group IV: middle age. This is only a number and doesn't slow me down! I have too many more to collect! group V: 21 - 30 year.
