    THIS I understand.
Problem for me is that one coin I'd REALLY like to have costs about $20K.
That would take 2 years of totally saving.
I couldn't buy ANYTHING else during that time.
It's a MCMVII High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle.
Last coin I need to finish my 1834-1933 Gold NGC Registry Set.

I don't even put it on my wantlist.

I have to agree with Doug, I do not believe at this time that I will ever drop $2k on one coin, so given that precise circumstance I would probably make it a unique opportunity to do just that, I really like the Saint Gaudens Double Eagle and would probably try to get the best certified one I could with that amount of money.

I really should have included that option. I love a good $50 coin!

Plus "1000 $2 coins" for my boss.

Lot's of interesting replies to this thread, my eyes have been opened.

    That is a great point...
You could get 40 PCGS or NGC MS64 Morgan Common Date coins...
That's almost half the entire set. Sure you'd need the harder dates after that but that would be a GREAT start to a Morgan set and for 2k...
    Now to find this Uncle...lol

Of course there are other options.
Put the $2,000 down on a new car.
Put the $2,000 down on a $1,000,000 dollar coin.
    Buy 2,000 $1.00 coins
Buy 20,000 coins for a dime each
Give the money to a charity and write it off on your taxes
Send the money to someone the deserves it more than you like me.
Blow it all at the neighborhood bar
Place in a bank and wait for about 200 years for the interest to make it worth much, much more.
Next year use it to buy one ounce of Gold.
Note that since he is now dead, he wouldn't know if I spent it on coins or booze. Hopefully that is.

Well, for $2000 I could buy about 100 ASE's, submit them to a TPG and chances are, with modern minting, at least 1/3 would come back MS70, so I'd sell those for $2000 each to some shmucks and then I'd have more than quadrupled my money to spend on coins that I really want.

Well, I voted for multiple coins, But I am also of the group that would mix it up a bit more.
The coins I buy, I buy them in bulk and I average between 1.50 - 1.75/coin.
So I would probably roughlly buy 1200 Canadian large cents.
Then spend the next 3 months cataloging them.

You can get Large Cents for 1.50?
What years are the large cents?

I'm trying to finish up a nice set of Standing Liberty Quarters in VF-XF. I would spend 1150 on a 1923 S, and the other $850 on a 1921. I think I could get the 23S in VF and the 21 in XF for $2,000.00

One $2,000 coin. A really really nice one, maybe a toner too, who knows.
But I would for sure go with that option!
