How would You Rate ANACS compared to PCGS, orNGC?

I think ANACS would be the place to go for those coins that you want graded but aren't worth enough to make it worthwhile at NGC or PCGS ... maybe the $50 range. There grading standards are good but don't fetch the same money as PCGS or NGC when sold.

IMO ANACS fell off badly when they sort of swapped with ICG.
Since I do NGC Registry Sets I don't pay attention to ANACS. Nor ICG.

One of my orders from ANACS came in today. Bummed out about the trade dollar. Not graded. Not Genuine. Ouch , I have had it for a couple of years. 9 1995 DDO cents ranging from ms62-ms67red. 1938 Proof Merc, 1937 Proof cent, 1942 proof cent, 1913 type 1 buffalo au58 , 1996 1 cent on un-plated planchet. Next order has 1895 proof indian, 27S SL quarter, several Unc Mercs and 1 more 95 DDO cent.

There are two hugely divergent issues here. One is their actual performance, the other is public perception.

Regarding the latter, the undeniable reality is this : ANACS doesn't get much respect. They are perceived - rightly or wrongly - as second rate.

By far the most important advice on this thread is "buy the coin, not the slab". You'll here that around here a million times and it's true every time.

That said, if you buy a nice coin in a new yellow ANACS slab, it might be a bit sluggish when it's time to sell. Consider crossing the coin to PCGS or NGC.

It depends on the specifics of the coins involved and your numismatic goals. In general, I don't see much reason to submit to ANACS. It's not because they're inferior... it's because the public perceives they are. Right or wrong, that carries much weight

I agree with your words about ANACS, but I would put NGC at the top.

I have a similar question and see no reason to start a new thread:

If I have variety coins, is it worth it to do the $119 special to verify the VAM/etc? Also, what happens if I submit under the +$5 tier and end up naming the wrong variation? Does the coin get rejected outright?

ANACS is excellent for varieties and problem coins. They will attribute many more varieties than the other services.
I've never had a problem with ANACS. But for resale of regular Morgans, I prefer NGC or PCGS just because of the resale market.

The more your coins are worth, the more it may be worth it to send to PCGS, or NGC. Meaning, coins worth roughly $300 & up into the $thousands. If you're sending in coins that might be worth $100-$200, ANACS might be fine.

Don't forget, PCGS gets VERY expensive very fast. 4 coins graded with a "club" membership costs $129 + high shipping fees, can run close to $200 all in. And they may "bodybag" or "genuine"-slab many of the coins.

However, PCGS also has a "club" membership that costs $199 which includes 8 coins graded......could be well worth the extra $$ over ANACS, depending on your coins.....

All I have to say is that I miss the old ANACS with their tiny holders... Back then I would say they were still 3rd but a much closer 3rd/4th than today. Today there are really only 2 options, PCGS & NGC. Anything else and I think your just wasting your money.

Thank you, and everyone else for all the comments! I agree PCGS is the way to go! Bottom line if you want the best return go w/the best Grading co.! 25 years from now I have my fingers crossed they will be worth a small fortune
