I hardly ment it as an aggressive tone but we did just spend 2 weeks in this thread answering that exact question
I know who the buyer was ! I checked out this coin at EAC 2009. I didn't look that carefully, since I wasn't in the market ! My recollection is the coin looked much, much better than the photo at the beginning of this thread.
That is cool. I'm sure if it was on the market you'd have had much more interest in looking at it. Isn't it nice to have a piece of history in your hands like that ! Ruben
This thread was an interesting one. I graded the coin EF45, and it turns out to be an AU58. I will openly admit I am TERRIBLE at this series, and I think a lot of them are overgraded. But hey, they are still beautiful coins... And I'd love to own one.
I read several replies (the first page) and then noticed this is a long thread. So, before I read the rest of it... My guess is that the coin received an AU55, though I would grade it AU50 or AU53. That is, unless it was net-graded, due to a problem or problems. I would be very surprised if it graded less than AU, again, assuming no net grade was awarded. Now on to read the rest...
not sure if the ? mark was to bring back the thread for people to read or whatever, but i am glad you did. i found it interesting and learned a ton from it.. thank you!
Hey Panda, welcome to cointalk. You will meet many great people here, and many experts. The coin community is an interesting group. I was just raising a few threads that I believe are worth seeing on the board occasionally. I've always felt this is actually the best thread that coin talk had ever produced, but I admit to being bias since i started it. Check out the Coin Talk museum I put together in the link on my sig. And enjoy... Ruben
WIthout looking past the opening post, I would say this coin is an AU-50 minimum. Probably slabbed AU-55 due to its rarity/desirability.
