How would you grade this 1798 large cent?

    Oh yeah. Here's an S-288 I picked up from a Heritage auction: NGC AU-50 but Mark net graded it EAC VF-30. (it's not that dark in hand or that black, it's my crummy photography then - I do better now - gotta reshoot this one).

    I will have to agree there is a good deal of truth in that. One problem is that Bill really doesn't like coins with problems. Something he said years ago really rubbed me the wrong way. He said you should only buy no problem coins and that if you didn't have a lot freely disposable money you shouldn't be collecting early copper. (At the time I was building my early date collection on an income of under $8k a year. I really didn't like him saying in effect that I shouldn't be collecting the early copper I liked because I didn't make enough money.)
