VF-25. I'd wait, most of the cost is the spot price of the coin and you can get a much nicer AU for about the same money.
That is one terrible XF-40 by any standard, but I agree that my original grade was low. The plastic was distracting me from the luster remaining that I'm seeing now on my computer instead of my phone. I'm still in the 45 range though, just too much flatness on the eagle for me. This could easily be just strike weakness, but the rims seem too full for that.
XF40 but with the grading I've seen on here lately it might go AU53 since it's gold. Still a nice hole filler.
Price seems about right. Spot value is $143.62 today. Of course this is only the gold value and it should have some premium for the early date.
$275 is pretty good. I sometimes can pick them up for a little less on ebay, but then would hope to sell for more.
I do agree with EF on the other coin, but if not slabbed, beware of problem coins and counterfeits. The coin above has a weaker strike than most, which is not common on early New Orleans quarter eagles. Much of the lack of design details is due to strike and not necessarily wear or the coin would have graded MUCH, MUCH lower.
I would say VF-30 .As a comparison I looked at a few I have in different grades.I find a lot of grading companies not always consistent that's why people recommend buy the coin, not the grade.
