a simpler start would be to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.com) You have his name and address.....if you've bought from SGS...go to the site and register a complaint. Also a great site for checking out a company before buying.
Here's the direct link to the list at the BBB (http://www.akron.bbb.org/newsearch2.asp?ComID=02720014000743) Only 2 complaints registered.....that NEEDS to change.
4F393-3DA6E-98410-FA865-C826C-66CB8-D9 My tracking number with the BBB. I encourage anyone else that has purchased a coin graded by SGS to do the same. Make sure you still have the coin for proof!
New SGS owner His name is David Sparks. I got that bit of info from Larry Bence himself. If you make a complaint to the BBB make sure you include his name also.
Hello Group, I have been reading on the boards about SGS also, and done sme research on them. I consider SGS graded coins to be unethical. Bidders and buyers of SGS coins on eBay could be warned by this method. Post to the Coin Forgery eBay group about teh danger / history of SGS graded coins, the CFE is here Edited: Do not post spam. Then invite the bidders / buyers of SGS graded coins to the CFE using their eBay user ID's. This is possible because the CFE is an eBay hosted group, so eBay members can be invited to the group by their user ID's. The CFE does not compete directly with this board, as it is a specialised group, just about coin fraud, and fake or altered coins. Anyone would be welcome to post an invite to the cointalk board on the CFE, the CFE has over 600 members. Best Wishes, Alan Van Arsdale
It is my experience that eBay panders to its biggest power sellers (and aboncom is one of that group). That means that anything that can be construed as damaging to its power sellers will be quickly removed from the eBay message boards. Good luck, but I doubt that it will work, I just hope that I'm wrong.
I made the mistake! Now I am spreading the message! Good morning, I made the mistake and bought 2 Adams $1 "MS70." Surprise, they were not! If I am lucky, they are MS65 or 66. I left negative feedback for both purchases and he then turned around and left hateful feedback telling other sellers not to sell to me. I will contact the BBB about this. Eric
eefields: Welcome to the Forum. And good luck with eBay removing your negs. As stated above, they pander to the powersellers, and don't really care about the little guy.
the problem with proving fraud or deception is this; does SGS use the Sheldon Scale to grade coins? is 32 degrees a frozen winter day or a hot summer day? just because the scale uses a numeric segmentation does mean the numbers will match up with other scales that measure the same thing. i believe that the SGS website or auctions state that they use their own grading scale. if SGS was selling registered PCGS coins with fraudulent grades, that would be illegal. what they are doing currently, IMO, is simply unethical. i believe in kharma and SGS has a huge kharma debt to repay. -Steve
The best idea...would be to stop slabs full stop. And make it an offence to own a recent (post 1950s) fake of a coin. Then we won't have to bother with "bad" slabbers. If you buy slabs for someone else's opinion of the grade then you are lazy not to get 100 examples of a common coin and learn the system...
Edited: Don't use that word again. Last warning. 'Grading' 'Service' & aboncom could end up being the subject of a report to www.ic3.gov ,as could 'stevesgiftshopp' & 'quickshiper' as well. Aidan.
Let's not forget all the wonderful coins misgraded by GEC. They sucked me in once and only once. It was a $20 lesson I always use when buying slabbed coins. Buying on ebay? Always use Paypal and/or a credit card. If Paypal won't help, your credit card Bank often will refund your money when you contest the sale and return the coin.
Hi, Kinda wondering what your problem was with GEC? I only ask this because their website is nothing but a bunch of disclaimers to cover their own butts. So what's up if you don't mind sharing?
Sgs=gec=ripoff They're another MS 70 grader for lesser grade coins. They've ripped off many people on ebay. Check earlier threads that relate others horror stories.
:loud: Yes I remember responding to that thread. It's a good thing that we continue to bring up these TPGs that aren't HONESTLY representing the true grade of their coins. Newer members will appreciate the heads up.
