Never, they are in a locked box and not at the bank either. I buried them in a post hole that way they will never be found.
welcome Jack. I don't look at mine enough, but I always have some coins scatterd about and whenever I need in the safe I usually look through some of my coins. By the way Jack, if you have been collecting since the 50,s I'll bet you have some great old coins .:thumb: I 'm sure we would all like to see some or hear about them.
welcome jack! i look at mine now and again. and i especially look at them when i read of a recent rpm or dd or other 'mistake' that makes the magazines and columns..................want to make sure i don't or do have an example. grizz
I keep some common circulated old coins laying around the house so I can look at them all the time. The "good ones" as I call them, I visit about once a week, maybe twice.
At least four times a week. Like someone else here wrote..''Otherwise, whats the point?'' I couldnt agree more.
My collection is very small, so small that is more than doubled when I had a rolls worth of nickels that I kept. It doen't take long to look through, and I enjoy doing it. I love looking at the proofs and errors espically.
Yes, I've been collecting since the 50's but unfortunately, I did not KEEP all the coins that I collected. My father, who worked for the railroad at Union Station, in DC, would bring me a sleeve of baseball cards and a few coins each week for me to collect. I had nice Franklin half and Washington quarter collections that I am trying to replace now and the very best baseball card collection. But, like baseball cards my mother threw out while I was in college, I spent a good portion of my coin collection on things like cigarettes and other useless stuff.:headbang: I did my part in spreading around coins to other collectors. I think some of you might have some of my former collection. I want to thank you for taking such good care of MY coins. Now you can give them back to me anytime. Send me a PM and I'll give you my address where you can send them. lol Jack
What a gracious gentleman you are, sir. It's a pleasure having you come out of the shadows and join our group. I look at something from my collection as often as I can. Sometimes work and other responcibilities have to come first.
Sorry for your loss, but glad to find out I wasn't the only one to come home from college and find his stuff had "disappeared." :rolling:
I usually will learn something new on CT everyday and will refer to my collection almost everyday to try and apply my new found knowledge in grading and such.
My grandmother did the same thing to my dad's huge, and probably valuable baseball card collection. I don't know what it is about mother's that makes them so eager to get rid of anything and everything that they don't personally see the purpose in. Oh well, at least most of them are excellent cooks.
I joined a softball team when I was a Junior in college. I went home (about 40 miles away) to grab my gear from high school. It was gone. That got me looking and I found that a lot of other things were missing too- comic books (many first editions in MS-70 condition- HA!), an Atari 2600, baseball cards, and all of the gifts from an ex girlfriend. My coin collection was rather small then and was where I left it. Fortunately I'd packed all of my original Star Wars figures and ships in boxes and put them in the attic. My mother (the best mom in the world) initially denied having done anything with any of it. I spent 2 hours tearing the house apart looking for my stuff. I found nothing and left for school frustrated and in disbelief. Years later mom admitted having given my stuff to her church for a yard sale. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
