    Mike,

I do have high standards, but I can't afford every coin I collect to be like my 1897 Proof IHC. That coin is the king of my collection. And yes it used to fill the spot for my type set until NGC decided to create the 19th Century type sets. When they did that, they disqualified any coins minted in the 19th century from being used in a 20th century type set. Therefore, the IHC slot is open again in my 20th century sets. I don't really want a monster for this slot, just a nicely toned high grade coin. This coin fits the bill quite nicely.

As far as the coin itself, I fully admit that it is a gamble. If I get the coin and it is dark, dull, and lacking in luster, it will not stay in my possession very long. However, if Heritage's photos are the problem, this coin may end up being a permanent resident. I promise I will post my photos of the coin as soon as I get it.

When I saw the poll the first thing I did was go to heritage and look at auction results to determine what I would pay. I am not sure it will be as toned as you like them - but it is still a very nice coin.

Well, I have to tell you guys that I really love being right. This coin is as unbelievably beautiful as it is difficult to photograph. The luster is incredible which is not evident at all in the Heritage Photos. This luster gives a pop to the colors that blow you away. The problem is that the copper coin is deeply toned and I just cant seem to get enough light on the coin to take a photo that does it justice. I really think this coin is beyond my current numismatic photography proficiency and would need a professional to get a photo that shows the true appearance of the coin.

This is the best that I could do with it. Despite the poor photos (mine & Heritage), this coin is phenomenal and I got it at an absolute bargain price of $200.

Congrats! Very nice coin and glad it worked out. And now you can afford another toned beauty or two. :) I love how clean the fields are - very nice coin.

This coin has me in ecstasy and agony at the same time. The coin is incredibly beautiful but I can't take a photo that does it justice. I have taken over 25 photos and this is the absolute best that I could do. It is much more clear, has less glare, and shows both the surfaces and colors better than the previous photos posted. I look at it like this, I waited until late December to make my best purchase of the year.

Yee Haw! even though I am still hungover from last night.
