I don't think Carl was critisizing you. I think he was giving his opinion on what the person you were selling the coins to would think. When you sell anything to friends or relatives, it's usually bad news. I even hate selling things to people I work with. If I sell a car to someone I work with and it breaks down 2 years later, I'm talked about behind my back as if I knew the car would break down. What Carl is saying is that if you sold the coins at face, the guy might tell everyone he sweet-talked you out of them. If you try to make a dollar, he may tell everyone you are a crook. It's kind of a no-win situation. Myself, I would do as suggested and point him in the direction of halves on eBay, unless you really need the money. Good Luck !
I kinda thought maybe thats what he meant, and if so that is a valid answer to my thread. The whole "crook" rant is what I didn't understand. Anyway, I see no problem selling coins to a freind for a fair price. Collectors all over the world buy, sell, and trade every day, and I think in most instances there is no bad blood on either side.
I see. Carl was saying I would be either looked at as a crook or a sucker by the person I sold the coins too. Now I understand. Thats a fair opinion. But I do need some extra cash, I do beleive we can come up with a deal that will leave us both satisfied, and I might end up with a freind besides my dad and people on the internet I can talk about the hobby with. Thanks for the advice though.
