Hmmm... My Augustus is about my edge of tolerence... I love the crisp strike, just wish he would just scootch into the picture a little more... Same with the boys on the back... just scootch in a little bit, and we would have a great family photo! Just spotted this lovely pair for sale on Forvm. They're literally the same catalog number and selling for the same price. One is better centered, the other is slightly better in terms of wear. Coin 1: Coin 2: Which one would you prefer, and why? I prefer coin 2 due to its overall better eye appeal, but either one would be more than welcome in my collection.
Both very nice. Hard to choose. First Choice: #2 due to centering and various detail. However, 1 has a couple other great details.
Paul => I like the obverse on #2 and the reverse on #1 ... Overall, probably #1 ... are you planning-on buying one of them?
Not really. They're both nice coins, but not exactly on my hit list. I just spotted them trolling through Forvm's sale lists.
I would have preferred the head of Ancus Marcus to be a little further down and it would not look like he has a huge bump on his head, but hey I only paid $90 so can't complain. Rome AR Denarius 56BC Crawford 425/1.
An opportunity to post something modern & off center. I believe that this is the first time I've posted this coin: You guys all guided me to purchase ancient coins that were well centered with the most complete details & legends. Thank you muchly for all the kind advice. As a result I don't have too many ancient coin photos that would contribute to this thread. This posthumous tet was available at the right time & at the right price. Although the face is headed off the flan, it includes some nice cabinet tone & the lion's mane details help attribute the coin to Babylon. I don't think the coin could handle being another mm off center.
