So today I was cleaning out my great grandpas attic I found a silver coin. On the front their is a ship in water. and on the back it says One Troy Ounce, .999 Fine Silver and Silver Trade Unit (it also shows a picture). I kept looking for the date but couldn't find one. It also looks very old like a old penny. And for some reason it has a golden color to it.

It also does not have a thing to say where it was minted at.

    Sounds like this:

Privately minted, worth its silver value but for some reason usually sells for around $30.

It's worth about $17 for the silver. You might get $16 from a coin shop, you might get $25 on ebay but with more risk and expense.

Basically, it just a lump of silver. It is not a coin or anything but a coin shaped round object, usually referred to as a 'round' or 'bullion round'

I am wondering how come you have silver bullion in your attic that you do not know about? What else might be there?

Well at melt value right now it's worth 16.5$ - I have no idea if it has collector value on top of that!! Maybe someone with better knowledge of your item can give you an exact price!

I found lots of 1940s American Penny's and some Canada pennys.

Short of stumbling across a significant variety, from your description you're not likely to have anything of great value, but this doesn't mean you shouldn't look, especially if coins interest you.

Beat of luck and welcome to the forum.
