We're in total agreement on that point. I don't see why there's *any* demand for common notes in this condition. But apparently there is. There are many, many notes like this selling on eBay for these prices and higher. So that is the market rate. In the big picture, even with those ridiculous prices, it's a good thing for Confederate currency. It means there are plenty of collectors out there willing to pick up even the junk notes.
My sister told me that her husband had bundles of confederate currency and I was eager to take a look at it the last time I visited...stacks of crumbling waste paper, I was so bummed, I didn't want to try and poke around in it.
This thread just prompted a thought: why is there so much Confederate currency but no Confederate coinage? We here know that answer, but it seems like it is an interesting question to ask as an educational tool for those who don't.

Confederate coins are highly valuable. They took over one of the mints. I think it was easier to crank out paper money.
