After this forum topic I decided to go through my wheats and memorial coppers. I was looking for 1980 ddo, 1970s ddo, 1960d ddo, 1958 ddo, 1956d d over shadow d, and 1936 ddo. I saw all these varieties in the deluxe red book at the book store. Didn't find one! I guess they are quite scarce
not only wheaties but i include any copper coin up to 1982. I have about 10,000, from 1909S VDB thru 1982. I also keep 1982 small and large date zinc replacements just because a year with seven different types on one coin has to be the ultimate in Mint actions. thanks.
in searching the coins, i have found lamination errors, the 1969S DD, and other cherry picker coins as well as those in the great book by Frank Spadone, which should be the Bible on pennies varities, al least. "Major Varieties and Oddities of United States Coins," published in 1947 and revised at least thru @ 1960. Buy it if you see it. It lists mintmarks as 1/2 degree northwest of the proper position, for example. I cannot imagine the work it took to produce this masterpiece.
Dilly dollar........... It is, less errors/varieties. Unless I counted wrong. LOL Can't find the rev pic but here is the obverse of my '09 S VDB
Are over mint marks ever worth that much? Generally I thought they are only a fraction of doubled dies
Quite a but, sitting arounds in bags and boxes. Still trying to complete my wheat date set, I think the only one I'm missing now is 1909-S VDB.
