No, I mostly collect ancient coins. But I get an occasional US type coin if the price is right. I found this 1909 for cheap... A few months ago I ran across a PCGS MS65 steely for a bargain. I don't have a pic but y'all know what they look like. So I'm up to 2 now.
Bought some coins from a lady in spring of 2014. She said she had a lot of wheat pennies at home. I told her I pay 3 cents each. Bought a few more coins in fall of 2014. Said she still had the pennies and she and her daughter were going to roll them by date. I said I am still paying 3 cents each. Late in 2014 she called and said she was tired of looking at pennies and wanted to sell all of them. I stopped by the bank and got $800 in cash to take to the country. They had wrapped over 300 rolls by date. I took my coin counter in and counted the rest-over 55,000 and took them out in bags and gallon jugs. Total was approximately 78,300. Got to wondering what to do with that many wheats. Called a coin dealer in her area and sold them for 3.5 cents each. Dropped them off on my way home. He added them to the 250,000 he already has. He said he looked at one bag and found a 1911 in AU and one early mint mark. There was a time when I would have searched them myself. Oh to be young again.
You can only look at so many wheat cents before you go blind! Lol. I bought a collection a few years back which had about 7000 wheaties. I quit looking after 3000-4000.
Only about 500 or so. All pulled from circulation the last 5 years or so. Just got a 1947 in change yesterday.
Good luck on the 1931-S. I just got mine about a month ago and it is the pride of my regular Lincolns...well, along with the '70-S small date. I got lucky and got it for $50. I still need an '09-S, '09-S VDB, and the '14-D.
Wow you guys have crazy big collections! I've probably got 50-70 wheaties. Most are not rare. All from circulation. Someday I'll switch back to pennies and update my books. But for now, I'm working hard on my nickels.
I was told they go up in value the slowest. Is that true? If so I believe there is still a reason to collect.
