How many use 2x2's with a "little larger" window than the coin requires?

I Ran out of half size flips and put some in dollar size flips. Otherwise they all go into the correct size.

When I began using 2x2s I always used the cent for the cent & dime for the dime etc. In the last few years, I have found that I prefer to have a little more space around the coin to inspect the edge. Today, I don't hesitate to use a cent holder for a dime or a quarter holder for a nickel or a SBA holder for a quarter.

Sometimes I get creative with thick World coins. I will cut a 2x4 in half and remove the mylar. The resulting 2x2 without window can be placed inside a normal 2x2 to make it accomodate a thicker coin.

I used to use the quarter sized ones for quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies and the dollar size for everything else larger than a quarter.
Now I either get my coins slabbed by NGC or use Mylar flips.

I used to use one size larger and staple close enough so no movement. But I switched to saf-t-flips, and more recently to saflips. Saf-t's allow movement anything smaller than dollars.

I wonder if they will ever make 2X2's for obsolete denominations?

I use the clear mylar flips as well, I find them to be a bit more useful than 2x2s because they have two pockets. So with the extra pocket, I put a piece of paper giving me all the details (grade, date, denomination, variety, mintage, etc.) about the certain coin.

Another advantage over cardboard 2x2s that Mylar flips have is not worrying about hitting the coin with the stapler when 'pulling the trigger' or yet worse, scratching it with a staple.

Ultimately I'm finding that most us (esp. newer collectors) struggle with the "storage vs. display" issue... For me, after spending over a hundred dollars on 3 ring binder pages, I've decided on Dansco/Intercept/Whitman for my main sets... and for extras or duplicates I'm using 2x2s and the red boxes. I just couldn't address the labeling problem on my 2x2s for display purposes - handwriting didn't look good.

Some sets like my Peace and Franklins are super nice UNCs and I'm a little afraid of the threads I've read - threads describing cardboard dust and different problems concerning books. I want to be able to look at my coins and this seems like the way to go...

+1 I'm looking forward to some quality time with cotton gloves, gently pushing my Franklin proofs OUT of the Whitman pages--after the cringing struggle pushing them in not long ago!--not letting the plastic strips rub, freeing them of the associated dust, and putting them into Quadrums (or air-tites...)

Yes, in terms of not being PVC. Saflips are mylar, as are saf-t-flips. I believe mylar is similar to polyester, but I'll leave that to the chemists to confirm/refute.

I often have problems with large dollars (particularly silver clad Ikes) breaking through the soft plastic.
