I haven't seen any yet, however I have two that some nice person from this forum sent me free of charge. I'd probably keep them if I found one just because they are in the first year of mintage, but as others have said they will probably not be worth much.
Gee, if I had known, I would have bought one of the rolls of them the restaurant had and sent you guys some. The D's have been here for awhile, but I will never see a P mint. I will check at my bank over the next few days, I bet they have new rolls.
I've stopped collecting Lincoln Cents completely. Presently have 10 Whitman Classic Albums full. And that includes all the slots for proofs. Then when I saw I would now need 20 different coins for 2009, I figured these are now closed books. I've been checking at coin shows and no one wants to break up Uncirc sets just to sell the Copper ones so for me, that is the end of that collection.
The good thing out of all this is that might attract new collectors to the hobby. Young people starting out don't have the money to buy all the coins that are so popular with collectors. If a coin cannot be found in circulation, and cost a lot of money to put in a book, many people are not interested. With a lot of new varieties, people can build a collection from pocket change as most of us started.
I think from the way the mintages are going, the 2010's are going to be about as rare as the first year of issue 1959 cents. So go look and see what rolls of 1959 cents are going for and you might see a glimpse of what the 2010's will be worth in 50 years. (Needs to be $2.15 just to keep up with inflation, needs to be $13.76 to be a decent return on your investment. I'm not sure what they are going for, but I bet it isn't "a decent return on investment".)
I have seen a few, But the numbers being produced are far to many to Make them valuable or rare in the future!!
That is just the February mintage. Add on another 115.23 million for January, and I don't know what the March and April productions have been so far but we are approaching if not over the most common of the 2009 designs already with seven more months of production ahead of us. We are on a pace for at least a 1.6 billion coin mintage which like I said would be about the same as the 1959 mintage.
I hope that is not true, it would seem to make it kinda pointless to save them. To the OP, I have seen them in several rolls so far and I have gotten them from Gas Stations, Hospitals and Restaurants. in case you are wondering, I live outside of Cleveland, Oh.
I would definately do the same. A very neat and inspirational idea I must say. Thank you for sharing that with us!!!
The words "coin collector" comes to mind.My first collections started from pocket change and in those days a few pennies could buy a whle bag of candy. Some like to collect 1 of each year and it is easier and cheaper to start at the present and work back through the years. So getting the 2009's and 10"s ,while not being worth a lot ,are worth a great deal.
With as many of these coins that are being minted, I dont think they will ever be worth much more than face in circulated condition. But that is the cool thing about collecting, collect what YOU like.
