On a personal basis, I don't know a single coin collector in the world besides myself. All of the others I know I've met online and have never met in person. If I gave someone I knew a coin, or some coin-related items, I think it would completely confuse them. So I bought an 11th century Byzantine Anonymous Follis for myself and will remain satisfied with that. Sadly, it didn't arrive before the 25th, hopefully it will show up today.
For the past four years, a close friend of mine, has given each of his grandchildren Silver Eagles for Christmas. Unfortunately, when I asked him where he was getting them, he told me some web site. Pressing him for more information . . . wait for it . . . . they were from China. I just had to break the bad news to him, and gave him a reliable sort to buy REAL ones in the future. He isn't going to tell the grandchildren, and they are too young to know, or care.
My two nephews are 10 and 7 years old and my niece is 4. I gave them each five silver dollars, 2 Morgans 1921 and 3 Peace 1922, all no mintmark. The boys and especially the little girl were real happy with them.
