I started collecting when I was a kid, but I grew up a military brat and things disappear every time you move. I gave up for a long time just because I was so discouraged. I am just now starting to want to collect again.
I'm with CSX (let the jokes begin ). On a completely unrelated note, make sure to talk with your state representative about HR3040 - two man crew mandatory!
been collecting since i was 6. im fourteen now my first coins were: 1969-d half MO sales tax token 1953-d half 1922 peace dollar 1971-d ike 1953 wheat. the first coin i bought was a 1908-O half when i was 7, unless you count the 60+ 40%ers i found crh-ing that summer
had an older friend and his dad worked at a bank.he used to show me his fab coin collection.that was in 1956 and I promptly started collecting pop bottles to exchange for money then off to the bank for a roll of pennies.i was about 5.
I started filling Whitman folders with cents, nickels, dimes, etc when I was 7-8 years old. I completely forgot about collecting from the age of 15 to 25. I began to dabble in it again & quickly became a certifiable coin nut until now. Including the ten year break, I've been collecting for slightly less than 50 years. My collecting interests have changed over the years & I learn something new about coins every day. This last Sunday I purchased five new coins. I didn't know that one was a fake until today. Yep, I learn something new about coins every day.
I started right after high school in 07 then stopped in 2011 when i joined the Marine Corps. Picked it back up this year so around 5 years.
When I was about 8 I received a Whitman penny folder and a handful of pennies. I collected, from people's change, until the 3rd time my sister stole everything to buy cigarettes. I went back to collecting in my late 20's, and collected till mid-30's, when my sister's son stole everything (I had an extremely nice collection of high-grade Mercuries by that time) in order to buy cigarettes. I no longer tell family members anything, lol. I still collect mostly modern, and probably have about 25 years total, not counting all the gaps, but I still feel like I'm learning.
I started when I was a Boy Scout in 1954, after a camping trip where we found many coins in a creek, and I'm still collecting. Currency in 1993. USMC1964-1970
Expressed a minor interest in coins at around 8 or 9, didn't really get into collecting though until about 3 years ago when I was 16. College will likely put somewhat of a hold on the collecting aspect for a few years, but I am always learning and will continue to gain more knowledge.
I remember those days, girls do get in the way of our hobby, for quite a while. ...on and off, about 30 years. Just because I didn't pay attention to The Hobby of Kings at times, didn't mean I wasn't hanging onto every interesting or unique coin that crossed my path. Vacation change always ended up in the same box, filled with paper envelopes, countries written on them.
Started collecting probably when I was 8 or 9 here and there. Seriously got into it for a year or two around 16 and then got back into it last year at 21 so in other words, I've been collecting for around 5 years.
in the other post you claim to not have seen something for 100 years and now you say you are 61 maybe you forgot a couple of zeroes somewhere also i cant be the only nitwit other than you of course who didnt stop collecting in between. sigh
