    2005 mint set

o.k. win or lose. i got few sets. that's it for 2005. inventory: 5 proof set. 10 silver proof set. 10 mint set. no commemorative. no american eagle. few rolls of am.bison and ocean in view. no special set like westward journey. no 2005 statehood quarters roll. i'm very conservative this year.

I pretty much share your prediction if not your sentiments.

There is a cycle to all things and your take on the likely events to unfold will probably not be too far off the mark. But there are many things we can do to lessen the chances of a major drop. Just recognizing the cycle in advance improves the chances we'll be on the right side of the move will serve to mitigate the effects a little. Warning the newbies that long term pricing is always dependent to some degree on supply even if in the short term it's demand which sets prices can help a little.

This is not to say that there aren't good values and great collectibles among the newer coins, merely that it is up to them as a collector to recognize value and to be aware that collecting in hot areas may be enjoyable but they should be careful about the amount of money they put into it. These areas will still be available in the future and may be much cheaper to collect at that time. There may also be some extremely good short term speculations among these newer items and it is this which will likely set up the higher prices and subsequent fall.

It is generally very unwise to speculate in a collectibles market even if you are aware of what you're doing. The chances of large profits and a percieved small risk trap many people into huge losses. Collectibles markets can turn quickly. Collectibles are a lot of fun to collect, so enjoy.

mint will increase again the prices

currently silver is traded over $8.00 an ounce. if that trend continue thru next year. the u.s. mint will have to increase its price on certain prioducts. presuming that other cost did not go up. only silver price adjustment. the price of these products will be as follows:

    based on $9.00 per ounce:
    am eagle proof dollar 30.95
    modern commems proof 37.00 pre-issue & 41.00 afterward
    modern commems unc 35.00 pre-issue & 37.00 afterward
5 pc statehood silver proof set 25.95

    based on $10.00 per ounce:
    add $1.00 to every categories.

p.s. currently u.s. mint is based on $7.50 an ounce. because during these few years. silver is always below $7.50 an ounce.

    40 pc of year 1999
    total 2,763 pc.

i stop collecting coins since 1995. its been ten years gap. then, i started collecting again during middle of 2005. those coins that i bought recently. total cost $2,000.00.

    do you know?.

from 1999, when the statehood quarters were introduced by the u.s. mint. until 2005, there were more than 100 products issued by the mint. like mint set, proof set, silver proof set, american eagle series, modern commemoratives, bags and rolls, special sets, and so forth. only 4 product where the retail price is less than issue price. these were :

2004 5 pc statehood quarters silver proof set.
2005 5 pc statehood quarters clad proof set.
    2002 winter olympics proof dollar.
    2002 west point uncirculated dollar.

so 1999 to 2005 is a success for all of us, the collectors.

    2005 mint set

2005 mint set finally sold out. the u.s. mint stated on all different pages that the product is no longer available. this could move the set psychologically to another high level. say $60.00 per set.

    From the Mint's Website, 11/27/05:

2005 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® (U05)

For guaranteed order fulfillment and delivery of this product, your order must be placed by December 1, 2005. Orders may still be placed until December 25, 2005, but the United States Mint cannot guarantee shipment and orders may be cancelled.

    Then, at the bottom:
Price: $16.95 Product is not available.

I bought two more sets from my local dealer for $25 each, just before he raised the price to $35. According to him, the satin-finish Mint sets will not be repeated for next year, so this may become a rare issue.
    Time will tell.

The mint will repeat the satin finish again next year.....
But let me ask you a question....name ONE coin or set that was only issued once with a mintage of this size that went up in value and stayed up.
Ask your dealer the same thing....a dealer is in to make money and he has to say things like that to sell coins...
But as you said...Time will tell!

I have said this repeatedly, even posted the following paragraph from the mint's web site, but apparently it hasn't sunk in. ALL FUTURE MINT SETS will have the satin finish.

That kind of sucks, doesn't it. They're not mint sets at all anymore, but a new class of coin.

    2005 mint set

any set that it can go up and make some profit right away when it just came out from the mint is better than a set came out and sunk immediately.

But lots of sets came out and went up....and then less then a year later now they are lower the the issue price....so even if this does go up some...don't bet they will stay up.
Look at the L&C Coin and Pouch Set...the mint sold them for $120.00....right now I'm high bidder on one for $25.00

see 2005 mint set will continue to increase by december. $60.00 to $80.00 a set is a dream come true. 2005 proof set will increase too. while 2005 silver proof set is searching for an error on the kansas quarter. this set should jump rapidly i guess. beside the mintage is low.

I will never get that as long as I live....why not say the might go to XXX...why say they will....that doesn't make "cents" and it never will to a true collector.
