Boy are we all a little work up over this!!! The mint has now been sold out. Lets see what happens, I think if your in this hobby to make a quick buck, well then I think you need to change hobbies, Etrade will take your money!!!! lets all look are why we are in this hobby-- to make money?? or because we enjoy coins and history
Why can't we enjoy the hobby and make money? I love collecting variety cents. I also collect high grade ms slabbed modern coins. I enjoy the raw coins most because I can hold and enjoy them. Over the past couple years I have acquired and continue to purchase mint products. I resell on e-bay.
thanks gdjmsp i think the best way is to enjoy your hobby and at the same time earn some money on it. but that does not happened everytime. some items you will lose some money too. but if you collect each year one set or one piece for certain type. you will gain money. because each type have their key date. and it usually went up very high enough to cover other loses. p.s. gdjmsp, you are such a sweet guy. thanks again.
I think the best thing to do with coins is to collect them and enjoy them....if you make money on them that is an added plus....but that doesn't happen all the time so that is why we say not to invest in coins---I have done both...made money and lost money...but nither one really matters much to me...when I get the money from the coin I turn around and buy another coin Speedy
hobby or money?. that's what i did too. not only that. the money that i spent to my coin collection keep going up. when can i stop buying it?. p.s. that's happened to my stamps too.
2005 mint set this 2005 mint set have the potential to double again its price from $30 - $40 to $70 - $80. that will be equal to 2004 mint set. 2005 have a satin finish ever made by the u.s. mint. while that of 2004 have the lowest mintage so far.
I don't think so.....look at history....most of the time the first issue doesn't go anywhere much....and if it does it takes years and years. Speedy
2005 mint set are they going to continue producing satin finish mint set?. i don't think so. 2005 mint set will be the only one.
The mint hasn't said if they will or not...I hope not but still history will prove this... Look at some 1 time issued coins and see if they went up in value. 1976 Quarter Any of the State Quarters Any of the New Nickels Most Comm's aren't rare... I'm not saying that they won't go up....more than likely they will alittle...but not $$$$ and I wouldn't bet that they would stay up. So my suggestion...if I had 5 or so sets of 2005 SF sets and the price went to $30 I would sell all I could. My set I might do one day of US Mint sets will only go from 1947-2004--that is sad IMO Speedy
The first year of the state quarters has a strong premium in forms. The mint mini bags are big as are the silver proofs. Also the peace nickel rolls are over $100 a box. I don't think you can compare earlier issues as they were not cut up to send to grading companies and e-bay.
2005 mint set the only way to earn big money is to buy directly from the u.s. mint. either you win or lost. but to buy any coin from a dealer. and sell it back to them by next day or two. you going to lose 25% to 50% right away. beside that, it is very hard to find a really new from a dealer. only u.s. mint does. some of the u.s.mint product that gained several hundred percent were: like tennessee bu quarter. a 25 cent went as high as 1.75 each. that's up 600%. a roll of 2004 peace medal nickel. 2.00 / roll went up to 24.95 / roll. that's up 1,148%. 2004 mint set. 14.95 to 80.00. that's up 435%. marine corp proof dollar. from 35.00 to 95.00. that's up 172%. even 2005 mint set. from 16.95 to 40.00. that's up 136%. 1999 silver proof set. from 31.95 to 300.00. that's up 839%. furthermore. 1994 american eagle silver proof dollar. from 23.00 to 250.00. that's up 987%. 2000 b.u. modern commemorative american buffalo. from 31.00 to 135.00. that's up 336%. not to mention atlanta olympic and 1995 w american eagle gold & silver set. 1995 w set reached as high as $35,000.00 a set (proof 70) and $6,500.00 a set (proof 65). p.s. i recommend buy directly from the u.s. mint.
2005 mint set then, 2005 mint set will not be a special one. that's why the price is only set at a minimal increase. $35.00 average. no wonder 2004 set will be considered the best one ($80.00). and its mintage, so far is the lowest for unc set.
But you must say that they are down from what they were....DE-D's were going for $100 a roll at one time I saw and now you get get a roll for $20 or maybe a little more. I don't know about that....I haven't looked into the bags as they are the same grades and such as rolls just in a bag. They have been up and down--you can still get some cheap rolls if you look. I think we can....history tends to repeat itself and history is a big part in collecting. Speedy
In my opinion, what has happened in the past does not reflect the same patterns of today. I beliive we are in a new pattern.Unlike any we have seen before. Ther are many reasons why,for instance, the internet, millions of collectors ,and thousands of new collectors every day.Though, what is driving this market is the newbies or inexperienced collectors.Willing to pay anything to get the new "hot" item. Which, in turn, will drive up the prices to who knows how much. Think about it, as for the short term, the demand will always be there. With 2 more years of state quarters to be released, there is going to be a greater demand. More demand = higher prices. Following a market crash somewhere in 2009 or 2010 (if were still here) The demand will loosen shortly after the state quarter series. After the newbies realize coins are not an investment, after paying the high prices, they will sale their coins probably losing a chunk of their money. I see something happening kinda like the sports cards industry in the 90's. Way too many companies putting out way to many collections and subsets, so that it is nearly impossible to collect all of them unless you have very deep pockets. Which in turn kills the market and drives up the prices of truly rare and old cards. Im almost positive the 2005 set will be at least $50 by summertime, and maybe $100 a year from now. This is the beginning of the end.
